Our kitchen has been a busy place lately (and will continue to be for the next week or so).....

Enough bridge mix to feed an army:

Fruitcake from an old family recipe. A certain store I'll leave nameless used to sell these for $75 each. These have been liberally christened with apricot brandy, Amaretto, blackberry brandy, and bourbon before being tucked away in an airtight container to age for a few months...

My Mother made excellent fruit cake. She'd start making them around the first part of November. She made a number of them for gifts to friends and family, very delicious, soaked in Cherry Brandy. I sure miss her fruit cakes and other Christmas treats she made,

These will soak 3 to 6 months before they're ready to eat. And 1 batch generally lasts us about 2 years. Other than our son (who loves them & is more than happy to eat his share), no one else will even try them because they grew up with icky commercial fruitcakes. Ah well.... their loss!!!
