Yesterday, with all that morning fog, was an eventful day. I was further educated.

I figured they were on the water eyeballing me, while I could not see them. Once the fog lifted a bit, I spied four geese, far right bank.

When some flew overhead, they were called down by the existing four and joined them,

landing very close to me, much to their surprise.

They did not like it but dealt with it, as I remained frozen just inside the teepee.

Then, they calmed down for a bit...

One goose was hanging out near Beaver Hill, after all others eventually took to shore.

I think she was holding back, looking for her baby. I never saw it all day, unfortunately (nor today). After that one finally joined them, they took off...

They were gone less than thirty minutes and returned, just after I had loaded my car and was preparing to drive away. I let them have the place, hoping they would find little one.

Much activity took place around the pond yesterday afternoon, heavy equipment, hence no geese today but those four did a flyby, spying my red parka and hearing axe man's loud truck in two different places they preferred had been vacant.

Larger flock of them than I have seen this season headed southwest just after dusk, yesterday...

Can barely make them out, but they flew directly over the pond. My understanding as of late this afternoon is that the pond is their nesting site, and at least three sets of goslings were hatched out of there last season, with the parents walking them over the large hill to my pond, afterwards (I guess for the cattail cover, but...).

My due diligence was just rewarded with a fly-over and landing by the fabulous four... very cool...

I had pulled up only ten minutes prior, finding no geese at all and concerning me, but as soon as I broke out my knife and tomato treats, walking onto their side of the pond where they always exit, I heard them coming over the hill with me in the wide open... They opted for the corner furthest from me..., if you enlarge the photo, they can be seen landing behind Beaver Hill.

The female raised a ruckus, but I ensured all saw what I was doing, before quickly departing.

I left them three small piles of freshly cut large, ripe tomatoes and one pile of small sweet grape tomatoes, first time feeding them.

Curiosity got the best of me, and now only the Fab Four remain...

I crossed a creek and hiked up the back side of the hill, knowing of some fallen trees at the top for cover. I wasn't sneaky enough, being that I have yet to find my glasses enabling me to see, and that big bunch immediately spied me. They were investigating my teepee, too, with some on land.

Soooooo, I just finished meeting with a federal refuge manager. Showed him the geese feed I had just purchased.

He said it would be fine. He doesn't believe that I saw a baby goose under three months of age but agreed it can occur for a few reasons. He did agree the geese are eyeing my teepee as a nesting site, elaborating that they nest much earlier than most people believe, while not quite just yet. He told me where I can go see a wide range of waterfowl upon one of his spots and gave me a map, along with other information. Nice man.

The Fab Four were MIA by 11AM and not there now. I am going to put that feed out in the morning, directly beside where the sliced 🍅
remain and also purchase a large feeder. We may have more snow inbound soon enough, and if so, they will be acclimated by then. My goal is to educate the property owner, so that he may then educate his guests, being how they allegedly feed the geese during springtime and most likely junk food.

Haha... Fab 4 thinks I can't spy them way back in the far right corner (granted, I must always snap a picture and then enlarge/enhance it, for confirmation).

I still think they are so very dedicated to this pond, because of a younger having been born late and managing to survive, but I still don't think they would ever leave it. Refuge manager said it may not be capable of flying, if they are periodically leaving it, for a variety of reasons (you wild and crazy men being one of a few...). I have been sitting within my car, permitting them to relax (they are far from tame...).

They have just come out of the corner and swimming to the other far west one. I am going to put their new feed out, while they are watching yet again, and then quickly depart for petro (hopefully I make it..). It's nippy, (think some gremlin is siphoning racing fuel from my tank, but my dogs have not been sounding the alarm; so, I may end up lifting a pants leg and thumbing it part of the way lol...).

They are now along the far west bank...

Huntress,
You are not seeing a gosling this late

Thank you for the comforting words, Sir. I hope that you are correct. It actually looked more like a small coot, not some fuzzy little soft yellow thing. I am going to ask the property owner, whether he has a pair of binoculars (almost every last bit of my stuff is currently boxed in storage...). If not, I may purchase another pair, just to be sure, because I do not like feeding wildlife, with the exception of hummingbirds...

I did a quick drive by upon return and saw the even more skittish part of their flock had joined them again; so, I just kept on driving. I caused them to head for their takeoff ramp, whereupon I previously placed the feed, but I think that I was in/out fast enough to prevent departure (never heard nor saw them takeoff from my side of the hill...). I do not see the tomatoes... maybe they were finally devoured...

I've photographed them for over 30 years zero chance it was a gosling so don't even worry about it. I would bet it was a coot or diving duck hanging out with them. Keep on enjoying them and have a great weekend
DOUBTFUL, but I may soon be attacked by many, guessing 15+ by now, and to make matters worse, I'm about to tinkle in my pants, because it is too darn cold to pull them down lol..; plus, they may fly , if I quickly move an inch within my teepee
