Hey guys, I am considering taking the kids on trips through KY this year now that they are getting a little older (and it was suggested by their hippie teacher, but whatever, I like seeing new places too I suppose). Anyway, was going to hit up the Cumberland Gap and go through Harlan while I'm at it. Anyone know if that opening shot on Justified was actually Harlan? I'd love to get a picture made with the kids with that as the background. Also -- what's a good place to eat there? Thanks in advance.
Ha. Thanks. I think that I'll hit up The Portal and see what else I can find. If someone can possibly tell me about that background shot it would be much appreciated, though. http://baldmove.com/justified-podcast/the-real-harlan-of-justified-credit-sequence/ http://mcallisterbryant.deviantart.com/art/Justifiably-Harlan-160639455
I cant speak for that particular opening shot but you can find coal tipples like that all over east,Ky...I could probably name 20-30 mining towns(coal camps) here in Floyd co alone off the top of my head though most of them are little more than a road sign now..
I can tell you that the last shot where it is a wide shot of the city is an actual picture of Harlan, KY. The building that has the three trees on each corner is the courthouse.
Looking at satellite maps, it looks like the picture in the Justified opening is taken from somewhere northeast of the courthouse facing southwest.
