DONT BE SCARED TO USE THE 17 HMR ON A YOTE!!!!! I have shot them with the small grain to the largest grain with the 17 HMR and it will destroy a YOTE. With HMR I limit my range 100 yards or less.
Hopefully sometime in the near future I can make an attempt to try and take a coyote with the 17hmr , I will see if I can find the CCI game point ammo to try it with . Thank you guys for the info .
If I end up feeling that 17 hornet is not sufficient for my style of coyote hunting , than I will most likely keep it for just a groundhog rifle . Hopefully I will be satisfied with the results on coyotes , because I no longer have a place where groundhogs are abundant which means more leg work in trying to find a farmer that is willing to allow me to hunt groundhogs on their property .
The 17 HMR is a deadly round on squirrels, groundhogs and feral kitties. I have never shot anything bigger with one.
17hmr is a great coyote round I shot one at 134 yards with cci gamepoint as he was walking towards me in the chest and it came out of his back ham. Use it and you won't go back to anything else on anything under 150 yards
Try it. You might be surprised. The only issue is high winds do affect it more. I have been using the 17 WSM rimfire for varmints for a few years now. Pretty much quit using anything else cause the 17 is light & handi and was getting the job done. I hunt the eastern woods so, we don't get many 200+ yd shots here. If I was out west it would be different. The 25g ammo works well on yotes, g-hogs and cats. A well placed shot generally drops em there. I had one cat run about 35y after a well placed chest shot but cats are tough and it was dead, it just took it a while to accept its change of status. I would expect the hornet to be more effective. Hey guys thank you everyone for the replies , please continue to keep them coming . I have been out a couple of times lately with it but have not had anything cooperate and volunteer to allow me to test it , but I definitely will continue trying . I live here in Kentucky and I'm sure all of my shots will be well under 200 yards .
