I can remember in the mid-80s in Marshall County we'd go to LBL to have a better chance of seeing deer on Sunday drives. When we moved out to the McCracken-Graves line in 1989 we hardly ever saw a deer. Then in the early 90s we had one lone doe that always hung around. Then you started seeing her with fawns in the spring. She was a producer. For quite a few years she had twins and triplets. Now they are everywhere.

At some point I wonder when we will dip too far into the cookie jar and whether that is really the goal.

If you look at the numbers on telecheck, it appears that the population is still growing but has been slowed. In the last 10 years, there have been three where the number of deer reported has decreased from the year before. One could argue that there's more to it than that, but you see the same trend looking at individual counties also. So its the same pattern locally as well as statewide.

I'm 62 y.o. and remember the seventies when if you saw a deer during the gun season you had a good hunt. The KDFWR have done a tremendous job with the deer herd and other game, plus the fishing opportunities now in the state. Those department folks are a whole lot smarter than they look! JUST KIDDING.

My bottom line on the deer herd and KDFWR is I have been able to be thrilled many times as a deer hunter, so has my son, and now my Grandkids.

Saw my first Marshall County deer from a school bus in the Jonathan Creek bottoms in probably 73-74, never killed one in Marshall till the mid 80's. My parents used to take us to LBL at night to see deer, my brother andbi called it going to " deer road " I started my hunting career in 77 in LBL and only hunted there for the first few years because it was paradise compared to Marshall County, only go there now if I tag out in Marshall County

I'd love to know if LBL is reflected in those totals, be cool to think I killed one of those 5717 in 1977
