Anybody have, or have you shot, a compact in 40 cal? Like the P320 Sig, or similar? How's the recoil? I know a few shots won't be a problem, but does it get old after 40-50 rounds, or more? I'm leaning towards the 320 in 40 cal for my new carry gun. Really like the small size.

I had a m&p shield in 40. I didn’t mind the recoil but will admit after quite a few rounds my groups would start opening up and noticed my hand shake a little more. I decided the 9 was the better option for that size pistol for me.

I will carry this in elk country. Bears getting worse every year. I am going to get a 40, just undecided on compact or not.

Had a Kahr cm 40 and don't think recoil was bad.

    Personally I would get a 10mm over a 40..

I've shot a few compact 40 cals and the recoil wasn't bad. I had a full size 40 at one point and it was a tack driver. I agree with ojibwa I'd look at the 10mm if you want something semi-auto and not 9mm or 45.

No, but I don't want to be the first... That 380 definitely wasn't enough....

This is my hiking rig. Glock 29 10mm. I had the slide milled for the Trijicon, and use my Glock 40 magazines with XGrips to give me 15 rounds of 10mm. It's not a toy for the range. Shooting Underwood 200gr hard cast is no picnic after a couple of magazines, but I can shoot .40 cal through it at the range if need be.

I carry a 43X daily in the city and have a 23 in .40, 19 in 9mm, to mix up my daily carry, a 34 for steel, and a 40 for hunting. Love my Glocks.

I have Kimber 1911s, and a few other options for carry as well, but I'm most confident and comfortable with my Glocks.

I carry a glock 23 for work. After shooting a ton of .40 my hands don't feel great. With that being said if I were you (as mentioned above) I would look into at 10MM.

I shoot a G27 chambered in 40 Cal. I have never noticed any recoil from it really to amount to anything. It is definitely a tack driver though.

Few years ago I had a Ruger P-95 in 40 ...and shot it a lot ... no real complaints on recoil. But fast forward to now... after fooling with full size 1911’s and my Glock 30s in 45acp... just really not much difference in my opinion between a 40 & 45acp. So .. if it were me and hell bent on a semi-auto... I’d opt for the 45 or 10mm.

Which I like Glocks .. their butt ugly but I’ve got two that’s never failed to go bang.

But that said.... if I were buying a gun with the intent to put a bear down chewing on my arse... I’d probably opt for a revolver in 10mm, 44mag or even larger caliber.

As I’d sure hate to have to be trying to clear my first stovepipe as the bears dining on my extremities.

Another vote for the 30s. I like mine, and, well, I just like Glocks.
