I have killed one bird this year and it was in the bottom of a holler under the beaches, flushed a pair together. Have seen four birds in total and the other two were on the ridge....so who knows? Two more my buddy killed were up on top. Which brings me to a question, he actually shot one of them yesterday evening and it's crop was full of little small berries mostly red but a few black. Anybody know what they may have been? Much smaller than grapes maybe a third that size.

Changed gears today. Hit an area for quail with overlaping grouse cover. No grouse and no quail. Moved about 8 woodcock.

The reds could be multiflora rose "hips" (berries) or possibly barberries if available.

Went to my favorite covet today, got 4 hours of exercise no grouse, woodcock, or quail. This was my best place and will produce some kind of bird, not today. That was the bad news, good news I reminded my dogs we only had 10 more months before we return to Wis.

Do you think you could get with the Dept of Fish and Wildlife and get them to trap some of them Wisconsin Grouse and turn um a loose in Kentucky like they did with them Elk?

I heard Wisconsin was wanting some elk from Kentucky for their herd. Wouldn't it be great if KDFW would trade them grouse for elk and make it a fair trade pound for pound. Just maybe we could flush a bird or two.

Apparently grouse don't transplant well, and birds that learn to eat aspen buds won't learn to eat new stuff. What I was told anyway.
