I have been to wisconsin 10 times and michigan 3 times. Wisconsin seems to have more grouse in my opinion. I try to stay 2 weeks around park falls area if possible every year.

No need to go north this year, they banned ALL southern hunters from the northwoods this year! Besides, they had some sort of "waste" disease hit the grouse this year, there are none left! If those 2 reasons don't keep you home this year, I can think of a few more!:D;)

Seriously, good luck to all this year in the Northwoods!I will make it this fall after missing last season.I will be there the last week of Sept., through the second week of Oct. A bit earlier than I like, but the only time I can get off to go.

We'll be there from October 3 - 16 operating out of a lake house we own on Soo Lake just west of Phillips. If any of you haven't squared away your accomodations, we allow weekly rentals and have openings available. Just shoot me a PM and I'll provide the details.

Any of you that will be there at the same time as us, look me up most evenings in the Flambeau Forest Inn located in the Flambeau River State Forest about 20 miles west of Phillips on W and we'll share a cold one and a few stories.

BTW, I was in Price County last week and it appears from all of the reports to be as good or better than last year. Drumming counts are up and several broods are being seen on a regular basis. I even had a hen woodcock and 3 chicks cross a gravel road in front of me ... I've seen plenty of grouse broods over the years, but that was the first woodcock brood that I've seen in the northwoods.

I usually see at least 4-10 a day by then I am usually wore out a lot of climbing hills/mountains lol
I hunt the DBNF, almost exclusively during the season. Of course I did'nt get the chance to go last year, but if I flew 4 in a day in the areas I hunt I would absolutley be doing back flips in the joy of it!

For me its not just about more birds. Its the beginning of the season when hunting is just about impossible down here and the dogs are rusty. Dad and I will go push hard and hunt hard for a week. We get back fired up for the Ky grouse season and dogs have started getting in game shape for the season.

My dog must be crap...she tares them up in New England, but hasn't found a single bird in DBNF... I gave up on them here.
