I flushed one at the end of March, haven't seen him/her again since. Was in good cover but right on a busy trail. A neighbor heard one drumming at the same time on the opposite side of the creek. So that's two...

I personally have not, I have a couple friend's that's heard some drumming.
I hope all this rain and cool/cold temps, don't kill the one's that's already hatched,
or are about to.
I think the median hatch date at yatesville lake was May 16th according to the (A.G.R.P.)
of course that was only a few year's of data.
If by some miracle they could have good batches and broods for 2/3yrs, consecutively,
then just maybe!!!

I do one of the Ohio DNR spring drummer routes every year in April at Shawnee State forest which is right across the river from Vanceburg in Lewis county. On my route this year I logged two different grouse drumming. Another friend of mine had 4 on his route that he runs in Shawnee but on a different road. So that's 6. The routes we run are all 5 miles long with 10 stops. We are allowed to listen and log any grouse we hear during a 4 minute window at each stop.

Does anyone know if the KDFWR does this type of grouse data population collection in Kentucky?

Best thing to do is save your money on liscence and gas and drive north and spend your money in a state that does the work and has the birds. My best guess this year is what few birds hatched out chilled out or will shortly die from whatever mystery disease is killing them . Of course I dont even know what grouse habitat looks like ive been looking for it for 30 years with no luck.

The drumming routes in Kentucky are driving routes that consist of 15 stops separated by a half mile. Time spent at each stop is 4 minutes. A link to the latest report is pasted below. Kentucky just hired their first Program Coordinator dedicated to grouse and turkey.
