Today is the start of my ground hog hunting season. I hunt them early in the year if they are out but lay off on them from mid March to June to let them get weened off. Not many left around my hunting grounds but I still enjoy ground hog hunting just as much now as I did when I was fifteen, forty years ago. Started out with a Remington 788 in 243 which I still have. Been thru a bunch of other rifles in 22-250 and 220 Swift's but now enjoy the T/C Contenders as my main weapon of choice.

Just wondering how many others out there enjoy the challenge and fun?. 1566830336-picsay.jpg

That 788 is a tack driver. I had one with a blonde stock. Loved that gun! The trigger mechanism broke some 25 years ago a few days before gun season. Gunsmith couldn't get it quite right, and since that was the gun my wife I hunted with, I wasn't about to send her in the field with a weapon that might not fire. Traded it to a model 70. I sure wish I still had it. There is no telling how many groundhogs I killed with that thing in the 80's. They were plentiful then. I had a Datsun Lil Hustler with a sun roof. I'd park in a field, and shoot from the sun roof. Good times.

They are destroying every barn we have. I need to get me a cooler of drinks and the .22 one Sunday and thin the herd. I’ve been able to pop a few throughout the years driving up to barns but by the time it takes to get the gun out they’re gone

I would drive slowly around the back roads of Pendleton and bracken county with a sand bag on the hood of a 76 Blazer. Hunted a lot in the bean fields of Ohio also. My senior year after graduation up untill I entered that Army 1983. I killed 518 that summer. I could hunt fields in Ohio and kill 6 or 8 sitting under the same shade tree before moving to a new spot.

It's amazing what they will do with a 80 lb German Shepherd hot on their trail!
