Look up the US travel advisories for Mexico. Listed by state. I just did. Show your Dad. Make sure you enroll in the STEP program. INreach is handy as is sat phone.
Ain’t no way would I drive across unless it was with my guide. When I was working down there this time last year, the Capt on the boat I was supervising told me not to step off the boat without one of the crew, that was on a dock behind I literal fortress with the Mexican army patrolling the dock w/ M16’s slung across their chests. When I flew in to get on the boat, I don’t remember the name of the little airport but it was sketchy as hell!!! Shady looking guys hanging around same way when I flew back home.
I know it's not approved currently on the northern border, can't imagine it wouldn't be to the south.
The guide meets you in Douglas, Arizona and picks you up. He transports you to and from Mexico and handles all paper work.
Killed 4 Gould’s down there about 10 years ago and you’ll have a blast. Border will be fine I’m sure. I’ll be there late January hunting Coues Deer and Muleys as well just not driving across.
Better get with your outfitters. Have to show a negative Covid test prior to returning to the US beginning Tuesday if you're flying. Land border crossing does not require a negative test at this time.
We're flying to Durango first of April. Spoke to outfitter this morning. He said ranch owner, who's somebody down there, can assure us a negative test result. We're there for three days so we'll get tested when we fly in.
