Going thru some stuff in the basement and found a box of old reels. Among them was a spinning reel and a bait caster bought in 1978. I sent them back to ABU Garcia and asked them to repair and in about two weeks they sent a brand new spinning reel and bait caster. No charge. When they say guaranteed for life they mean it.

I’m no collector ,but some of those old reels could have some collector value

Yep. Alot of the old 4 screw baitcasters and others are worth more than the new reels.

I was chuckling to myself.....they sent him a new one because the one he sent in could sell for $200 on eBay :) !!!

Yeah I would think the one he sent in was a high-quality Sweden made built like a tank probably last another 30 years and they switched him out for some $10 made in China POS

I’ve been buying older Reels the last couple years. And keeping those on the boat.I found several “new in box” Diawa and quantum Japan baitcasters. after a thorough breakdown cleaning and lube they do great for me and I just like the way they look. Not saying I would turn away one of those new DC reels But I just like having old school stuff around me

I've likely got 2 dozen of the old 5000 and 5500s. Back in my pay lake days they were my go to catfish reel. I picked up every one I could find at yard sales and flea markets. Great reels !!!

Well the reels needed repair it’s likely they don’t have parts for them anymore. Paper weights at this point maybe

I'm just typing to have fun.....I agree it was great for them to replace the reels !! As stated, I'm a huge fan of their older reels.

The reels were junk with the baitcaster rusted and the spinning reel with a broken bale.

  12. I cut my teeth on baitcasters using a used 4600 plus, exactly like this one, given to me over 30 years ago. I picked and cut a lot of line out of that rig lol. It was several years before I ditched it completely for low profiles.

That's still what I use for musky fishing. I mean casting practice (same difference)

I've got plenty of old Zebcos and Garcias. Never have let me down. I'm afraid to buy a new one because who knows what Chinese dingbat put it together.

I have some Ambassador 5000 that I saved up and bought in 1963. Wouldn't take anything for them but haven't fished them in 40 years.
