Gloves or red hands

I’d use gloves if I ever remember them…

Im never very close to water, it takes too many wipes to get all that blood off, or the water I pack is just freezing cold, and the blood is sticky and itchy.

You’d think with all that I’d get it together, but I never do remember gloves.

I also have to put on a fresh pair about 10x/day at work now, so maybe it just doesn’t feel like a day off with gloves on.

I'm very allergic to deer hair so I'm practically in a hazmat suit when I'm gutting or skinning one. I only deer hunt right around my house so I usually don't bother field dressing anyway. It's much easier to hang them up and let gravity do the work if possible. As soon as I'm done I jump in the shower and pop a few benadryls and I'm good. If I wasn't allergic I would definitely go in bare handed as long as it wasn't gut shot.

I'm also allergic to the hair. 1 year I got a decent buck, went to put on gloves, none in pack. Just cleaned him up without and broke out with welts and itching. Both hands and forearms. Had to stop at a drug store on way home. Got a bottle of rubbing alcohol and cleaned up in parking lot. Lesson learned.

No gloves since I was a kid and still no gloves as of today. I'll admit it's an easier cleanup with gloves but I have no worries putting my hands inside an animal or in blood.

I've used the glove combo pack for years now. I think the ones I bought were either HS or Muddy, I don't remember. It's a pair of long sleeves that go up to ur shoulders and a thin pair of nitrile gloves that go over them on your hands so you can still feel what you are doing. This combo makes clean-up a snap.

If they get torn and I get bloody, no big deal. I typically do a thorough autopsy on everything I dress to see exactly what went on inside and those throw-away gloves usually keep me and my clothes from looking like a Michael Myers kill.

For me, I carry gloves in my pack. Makes the cleanup easier, as others have said. Also, just in case that deer is carrying something I'd rather not catch if I can help it.

I went red handed on almost all deer. But, I will say one year i noticed a few roundworms writhing around while I took out the guts and that made me think about gloves a little bit more. I wore gloves a few times after that but if they got cut open on a splintered ribcage (which they usually did) then they came off anyway. And I was still getting blood all over my forearms so.. kind of a waste.

Was at a quota hunt a few years back when someone shot maybe 100 yards away in a deep holler. Wasn't hard find them as they had on orange. Kept my distance and I could hear them talking. Sounded like 1 guy said no I didn't bring them I thought you would. I take it he meant gloves or maybe wipes. Guy started cutting on doe and then I he starts gagging and puking. LMAO. I had to go a hill over to calm down.
