I got a Generac 3600 just for emergency use. It was 459 bucks. Haven’t had to put it to use yet, but believe it will do what I need to get by. Keep the fridge and freezers up by rotating, run a few lights, tv. And if need be unplug a few things to run space heater, although have a kerosene heater. And as far as cooking the black stone has a full tank of propane.

If you have free natural gas i would be ALL gas ! Dryer, range, heat, refrigerator, all could be run on gas.

Have everything but dryer and refeigerator. The dryers worry be..lint and flames. Im not sure if they even make gas refeigerators anymore..but i havent looked either.
Edit to add..they do still make the refrigerators.

I’ve got a generac 20000 wt 200 amp standby generator with a load shedding switch. Had it put in when I built my house which just happened to be during the ice storm of 09. Runs off propane. It automatically comes on when power goes off.

A whole house generator should produce 200 amps. Average gas powered generators won't produce near that and are more for use to power a few necessary small appliances, like coffee pot, microwave, and the refrigerator. Should also be able to power a router and your TV.

Mine will pull it. Already verified. Figured there was no need to wait till I needed it to find out it wouldn’t. Let it run like that for 2 hours with no hiccups.

I know the small LP generator we had would burn through a 100 pond bottle in no time. Would be interested to know how much LP your 200 amp unit uses. Have been looking into large generator and transfer switch options and the LP units are attractive but I have been curious about the LP consumption.

Not sure. It’s been used since we put it in but not for major prolonged times. After dealing with 09 I will deal with the usage. I’m not one that would let it run non stop unless the temps required the heat.
