A few years ago, my ex-wife went to visit her grandma and came back with some unlabeled home canned stuff. A few things I couldn't tell what they were just by looking in the jars. Some canned green tomatoes were one of them. I didn't think anyone canned just green tomatoes. I figured they were some sort of pickles. And then I opened them and found out they were just green tomatoes and my wife asked what I was going to do with them, "fry 'em up" I said. They were good. The only issue I had with them is that they weren't all cut into slices. Some were just wedges--slices that started out as slices at the top, but faded away before the cut was completed. I don't know if it was meant to be this way, or if granny just wasn't cutting them good but did't want to waste them.

My guess would be granny didn't want to waste narry a piece, nor jar space. When slices are put in the jars there is quite a bit of space left that could be filled with a wedge or piece, but not a whole slice. And then she just may not have been accurate with the slicing.

In spite of the drought, I managed to keep some basil alive long enough to get enough to make some pesto... Good stuff!!!!! (Color isn't the best due to unhappy plants but it doesn't affect the flavor.)

Round 1 applesauce. I'm not going to do much more sauce, round 2 will be about half apple butter.

My brother showed these turnips on the 25th of August. Got 1 inch of rain on the 26th of August. Had 2/10 inch last week. I dont see how they have grown so good. Screenshot_20190925-200854_Gallery.jpg

I started to take a pic of my turnips and mustard this afternoon. I'm amazed that they are growing so well with only the rain on the night I sowed them! I think I sowed them the same day your brother did.

The maters are still pretty tasty, I might just do that over the weekend! I may cook them down a little for use as pizza and pasta sauce.
