Back several years ago ... I was working midnights and gotten off work on a Friday morning to start my weekend. It was a cold & crappy day... so when I got home I hit the recliner and started channel surfing. I landed on a Game of Thrones marathon weekend .. like the first 3 seasons. I’d never watched an episode till then.... and heck I couldn’t stop watching on that day. I got hooked.. and then my wife got hooked. We’ve been watching every since ... and no telling how many times we’ve watched the seasons again & again. Always something you missed or didnt catch the first time we watched. Which I know there’s a few GOT fans on here... and just wanted to post this as a reminder. Being the final season begins tonight ... me & my bunch are looking forward to it.
We hadn’t watched it, but we’ve heard so much about it lately that we watched some of the first episode this morning. I don’t know why, but I didn’t think it would be something we would like. I was wrong.
Sounds like you and I have had very similar experiences in becoming acquainted with GoT and getting others hooked on the show. I too routinely watch prior seasons over and over and you’re right, there’s always something new you notice in each episode. I also enjoy watching it repeatedly just to concentrate on the character arcs and character development, even with those I don’t particularly care for like Theon and Jamie. I honestly believe that GoT is the very best show that has ever been on television and that it rivals or even equals the greatest movies like the first two Godfather movies. Anyway, I’m jacked for tonight and can’t wait for 9:00 pm to get here. Thanks for your post btw, I just got on here to post a thread about tonight’s show and saw yours.
Yep..... liked tonight’s too... going to be a lot crammed into every episode. Which tonight for the first episode it was more like a Super Bowl get-to-gether. I had been out and when I got home .. pizza, chips... popcorn.. all kinds of snacks.... company over. My daughter is about 5-1/2 months pregnant now. She was waddling around and wearing a shirt that said “The Baby is Coming”... with the wolf crest. I got a laugh out of that.
Kind of disappointed in tonight, but I guess they had to get caught up and fuel the fire. Fireworks gonna fly. I thought the episodes were going to be 1.5 hours this last season?
I thought they were going to be longer too... but I’m like you maybe tonight was just a catch up episode and they get longer. Thought I read somewhere that there were only 6 episodes.... don’t know if that’s right though. But they got to cover a bunch of ground in a short time.
Have to admit I really enjoy the GoT TV series. I am a voracious reader, and huge Tolkien fan, so when the Book series was described as an American version of Tolkiens great works I started reading. The part I really really REALLY enjoyed was seeing dragons used as military weapons. Long and short, the TV version is far far better than the written books. The books rapidly get to a point that you just don't give a _____, because he kills off so many key players, and in such a random manner. That, and they drag on forever with pointless dialogue, and still haven't wrapped up (the books still don't have an ending, and are still stuck somewhere around season 5).
Well.... white walkers no more.. lol. Heck of a battle scene....wasn’t disappointed in the least. Just hated to loose a few of the characters but we knew it was coming. Maybe the bigger surprise is more than I expected made it through. Good episode tonight.
I’m a huge Tolkien fan myself and a big reader. I re-read Tolkien’s works regularly. GoT , the books are not in my opinion equal in any way to Tolkien’s work. Martins works seem random with the use of killing for no more than shock value without furthering the story. That’s just my opinion though. Then Tolkien will finish another book before Martin does, LOL
A side note. Amazon will be releasing a LOTR series soon and a Wheel of Time series is in the works too
A quote I found online about GoT I found slightly amusing and true for the most part.. "Game of Thrones is unquestionably the most acclaimed and beloved show on television. But HBO's hit fantasy series, which returns for a final season , is not a drama for adults. It's not even a soap opera. It is ultra-violent wizard porn — and boring ultra-violent wizard porn at that. Two decades ago, watching it would have gotten you shoved into a locker"
