I used to think that it didn’t matter if you told someone where you killed a good buck. That buck is dead and no matter how bad you want to kill it, they only die once right. Well, I have seen the power of loose lips in recent years in an area of Knox where I’m an area guide. We used to not be able to get anyone to sign in to our area. Even though there were decent sightings for a public hunt. Then somebody shot a good buck and word got out. Now that area is full every weekend and hunters are tripping over each other trying to find a likely spot to sit. Now we get 15 to 18 hunters trying to sit in one small bottom. It’s not a coincidence either. The hunters will actually ask specifically about the buck and where exactly it was killed. I figure it will thin back out in a couple years when the success of the area becomes more normalized and the legend of the dead buck starts to fade. I really do think that for the most part at Knox all areas have potential to hold a dandy buck. It just a matter of whether or not he stumbles in front of a capable hunter or not. I think most area guides can attest that the interest in a certain area increases dramatically after word of a big deer being taken gets out.

Literally 150 and change. Awesome deer. Would shoot it every day of the season. But not hanging in Cabela’s awesome. Certainly not a record book buck.
