Well, the food plots of brassicas and winter peas I planted Labor Day weekend did not come up due to over 5 weeks of lack of rain. I went out this past weekend and sowed some annual rye on the bare dirt to salvage the plots. It should get decent germination due to the recent rains.

Good luck. We’ve been putting down wheat trying to get some ground cover. Going to be a long, sloppy, nasty winter if none grows.

Rye grass or cereal/winter rye?

I got my food plots in the first week of September and its been DISMAL to say the least from lack of rain! I've spread cereal rye twice hoping for some germination, but its been spotty at best. I took the Groundhog Max out Saturday and ripped up the hard ground with it and reseeded and cultipacked. Hopefully it germinates after the rains we got yesterday/this morning. I had to put my Gator in 4wd to use it, ground was like a rock

Best of luck. It has been a challenging year for fall food plots to say the least. But, at least in my area, the deer numbers are plentiful. More deer and more deer action than I have seen on this property during early muzzleloader season.

Smartweed took over some of my clover. Winter rye did ok. The tops of it is looking yellowish. Big tine brassica didn’t do nothing hardly. Winter peas either.

My turnip and radish plot looked like the Sahara Desert. That's why I planted rye.
