Write of the little spitfires, she finally just flew in again, perched, took a quick sip, hovered while thinking to do so again but refrained. She never bothered to look at me, before flying out and up to her huge scaffold. Might be little girl, even though she typically perches for a long time, tapping the feeder port forever and a day.

AND she just did so. I now believe it to probably be little girl.

Juvenile hummer girl just flew at high speed beneath the covered deck above me, sipping while not perching, immediately flying over to feeder #2 beside the spare garage doing the same, while not visiting the newly placed feeder #3 beside the orchard and Bunnyville. Deck feeder is almost empty now.

67°F and it suddenly began to lightly drizzle after the fact. Will be dumping all feeders today, due to last night's rains and refilling them.

Two hummers confirmed yesterday, female juvenile and female adult, maybe more (I was inside much more than usual), while still no interaction between them did I witness; however, this morning has already been different. Late afternoon yesterday, after noticing a hummer had finally discovered the new feeder placed far away beside the orchard and Bunnyville, almost forty-eight hours ago now, I relocated it only ten feet away from the primary deck feeder above me, hanging from the ceiling fan. I wanted to be able to better count and identify the birds. It had a few visits late yesterday afternoon.

Right on time at 6:45am this morning, a juvenile female flew over and fed from it, then made an arc up toward the dead sappling out of view. I quickly stood-up and took six quiet steps, peeked around the corner confirming she had perched ten feet away from my new position, hid, then peeked again in order to determine whether she had remained as usual. Confirmed once again, I decided good chance exists that it was my little girl. Moments later, she was gone but not for long.

Within five minutes, the primary feeder received a direct flight in and was tapped by a juvenile perching for a lengthy drink, and not long thereafter I saw an adult female come into feed from the new feeder. A chase then ensued, the first one in a few days. :)

I witnessed yet another juvenile hummer, a portly one come into feed from the latest addition of hyper juice. She then perched atop its shepherd's hook, for maybe thirty seconds in a relaxed manner and simply stared at me, before flying elsewhere. Not long afterwards, yet another chase ensued. :)

I then noticed one or more hummers searching the former spot near Bunnyville, for the latest addition of hyper juice to no avail. That was interesting. The spot was carefully scoured, at least two different times.

All chaos broke out, at some point after that and chasing continues. :D It is even possible that I may have a Yankee adult male suddenly upon the scene, but I have yet to confirm such, with it being extremely overcast this morning (sure looked possible). A second brief perch upon the recently relocated shepherd's hook just took place, from a larger female having taken a sip. She was on high alert, moving her head in various directions almost like Linda Blair within The Exorcist. There are numerous hummers here this morning, and hopefully one is my little girl.

One or more of them is most certainly little, compared to one or more other juveniles. I am gaining more confidence that one of them happens to be her!

Nice to see you finally post an update within your very own thread again. :)

I've had one visitor to the new, make that two now, feeder this morning. The second one is the one that I saw for only a split second yesterday, considering it might be an adult male.

Now the third portly one has come into feed from the primary feeder above me but refrained, as I was moving to stand and return inside to brew some decaf.

They were all quite busy yesterday.

It's little girl, no doubt. I was sitting upon the deck steps watching my bluebirds, and she remained perched within the dead sapling beside me. Because I do not typically sit there, she refrained from going to the primary feeder and opted for the one beside me near the steps. She even fought to perch upon it while drinking and actually managed it twice, somehow. It lacks a perch.

The meter reader man and I were chatting earlier this afternoon directly beside it, while standing upon the sidewalk, as she flew in twice to drink from it. The tall man had never been that close to a hummer and was dumbfounded with amazement.

She is becoming thicker. At least three were here today and maybe more, adults and juveniles. Some chasing ensued, just not as hardcore when only three juveniles and one being male.

Little girl came into feed from the newly relocated feeder by the steps slightly early this morning, at 6:39am, perched within the dead sapling ten feet away from it and revisited for yet another sip within three minutes. She is chirping her chatter now, having visited a few more times.

I thought one had managed to enter the house yesterday. I fell asleep upon a couch for a brief power nap of perhaps thirty minutes after 10:00am. I heard buzzing overhead toward the end, eyes still closed.

I arose while still within my brain fog and walked to my bedroom, in order to see whether one of my dogs had managed to open a door, leaving it ajar. Seeing no open doors, I checked the remaining doors throughout the house, all the while wondering whether I had been dreaming, while sure I had already been awake at the time of hearing wing flutter. After returning outside and coming more fully alert, I determined that one of the stink bugs having managed to enter had made its way into the living room, completely tricking my senses.

One hummer finally fed from the feeder above me while typing this, much activity since the first appearance this morning.

And she just managed to perch upon the feeder with no perch once again. It's quite amusing, with her claws slipping upon the plastic and causing the feeder to rock back and forth making all more difficult. I am going to see whether I may have retained a metal coat hanger from the dry cleaners and engineer a perch for her. I have noticed that she and/or others have been hunting my blackberry jungle hot and heavy the past few weeks, even perching upon its outskirting canes. She did so not long ago. She also took nectar from some of my purple calibrachoa blooms a moment ago, after having completely ignored them back in the spring and summer, ignoring the red petunias directly beside them while doing so. She is now mixing her breakfast up quite a bit this morning.

Found one, worked like a charm, causing her to fly directly onto the hanger and perch without hesitation. Looks like the redneck riviera, though.

I saw something about forty-five minutes ago, in which I intend to capture a shot of at some point in time. My little girl chased a drop of sugar water, as it descended from the newly placed feeder #3. I absolutely love capturing water in motion and freezing it, one of my favorite things to do, and I always prefer to have a subject interacting with it, preferable at high speed.

Although she almost caught it mid-air and could have easily done so, she refrained, after having leapt from my engineered perch surrounding that feeder, spying the drop in the process and following it downward, positioning herself parallel with it three feet above the grass. The sun was glistening upon both of them, highlighting all. It would have been the perfect shot, less the redneck looking coat hanger and concrete driveway in the background. I could have adjusted for the background but not the coat hanger, lol. That shot with those two things eliminated is now within my bucket list for next year. I shall save the feeder for it, even though I had intended upon tossing it.

I have since switched out that feeder for one of my blue mason jar feeders with perch, retrieved from the garage, and even switched that one out again for yet a different kind of plastic one without perch. The latter one was broken, but I simply rubberbanded its base to the feeding port top, resolving its issue. If they wish to perch while feeding, they must now enter the hummer garden and feed from the preferred First Nature Feeder with perch.

Regardless, I wish to find feeders with sugar water trays and top feeding ports made out of nothing but stainless steel. The metal utilized for both the sugar water trays and feeding ports attached to the mason jar is what made me extremely uneasy once again, ditching it for a second time this year, although barely used. Likewise, I feel the same about mixing sugar water with plastic for the hummers' feeders.

Changed my mind, as we females are prone to do. I desire 100% glass feeders from top to bottom, with exception to replaceable seals. It is worth it to me to retain the services of a skilled glass blower, handing over my very own designs. That's my plan.

    Glass Hummingbird Feeders

This seemingly glass feeder with overhead dome is rather nice, provided the interior of the glass is actually smooth.

I am about to finally further my search for glass feeders and potentially edit the previous post with some. Just wished to mention that two female juveniles chased one another all day long, one being my now portly little girl. I don't believe that she will remain too much longer, for it all. She needs to soon depart, unfortunately, or stop eating as much; she will become incapable of lift-off.

Little girl chirped while doing a flyby right on time at 6:50am, then quickly returned to take a rapid sip from feeder #3 at the steps. She then perched within the dead sapling for less than one minute and returned to feed. It has become her new favorite feeder. Such must be due to its position.
