The actual skill of hunting is being lost IMO.
Couldn’t agree more. The skill of hunting is being replaced by the mentality of the kill and social media post is all that matters
I've killed turkeys out to 50 yards with my Browning Gold 3 1/2 shooting #6 Winchester XR's
I've been shooting the TSS the past 2 seasons. Furthest I've shot a bird in that time has been just over 30yds. Just because my gun will kill one at 60yds doesn't mean I'm going to shoot one that far. I much prefer them at 60ft!
20 gauge federal tss 8-10 shot one from 35 yards out the other from 5 yards out haha the 20 gauge will kill them out to 50 with that tss but my son could take my 20 gauge turkey gun out of my hands with the turkey shell and shoot one too with the tss Something we couldn’t do with the 12 gauge because I was scared it would dislocate his shoulder or break it he’s 10 years old
I shot and missed one one time at 55 yards, does that count? Only shot I've ever taken over 35-40. I like them in the decoys...just like their waterfowl brethren. Close enough you can kill them with stone dead with whatever combo you're shooting.
Not even close.
To a few hunters, probably, to most I don't think so. I bet you're the first one to put it on Facebook when you kill, lol.
So knowing you could snipe a turkey at 60-70 yds takes the same skillset/luck as taking one at 30-35 yds? Not even close.
Like others have said, because you shoot them, doesn't mean you take crazy long shots. Not even close is for your comment about taking the hunting out of it, it doesn't.
I have been using the long beard xr since they came out and they work great I see no need to pay 10 dollars a shell
I personally don’t like the XR. I’ve never used them but my old man did and turned me on them. He shot 2 birds under 40 that ended up getting away, and he’s a killing machine. They patterned pretty well so not sure why. We switched to Nitro Rays shells, hand loaded from Missouri, which are basically the new TSS now and not had a bird get away from us. So, for me, if it means one bird isn’t wounded or getting away, I’ll gladly pay the extra money. But I understand others not wanting to shoot them and staying with what works for them.
I shot Nitro for years. Great loads. Play time is over!
Yep, and it is over too, lol. You not shoot them now? I got a box of 25 and usually shoot 2 shells a year so they are quite the bargain when you figure it up. 12 years worth of shells for $200, not bad. Those dudes even give ya information on chokes and gun combos. I shoot the 835 with the Primos Jellyhead.
That just gives me a chub!!!!!
