I was curious what are your alls favorite varieties?
For canning, for eating and a good yellow variety?

  4. Suddeth’s Brandywine hands down but it sucks most years for me as far as its late to set fruit and doesn’t really bear a lot most years. I think Barney had a good/above average season with it last year though. I grew some Cherokee Purples last summer that were very close in taste and produced a lot more. Still not quite a Brandywine.

I was trying to look back throught the garden thread from last year. There was someone that mentioned Mountain Majesty. But it's probably to late to seed tomatoes and I'm not sure where I could find plants.

Mountain Gold is a really good, non hybrid/ open pollinated short vine yellow. Like most determinates, it pumps out a lot of fruit in a short time.

  10. That was my next question for you Barney, what determinant varieties you like. I believe we talked about this last year or two when I mentioned the old man down the road who every year had a long row of 3-4’ tall, staked with tobacco sticks and tied up with pieces of cloth plants who’s vines weren’t all that impressive but were covered up in baseball and larger clusters top to bottom. I’ve never grown them.

I have a buddy who grows several different determinates every year, and my pick for the looks of the fruit is the Mountain Majesty mentioned above. The one I am de-hybridizing has been my favorite for a long time. It's productive, large fruited, and really tasty and juicy for a determinate. It's not hard like most of the others on the market.
