I got a small piece of property last year to hunt. We had a few decent bucks show up on camera last year. I’ve been working in my spare time trying to clear the trees off of it to put a food plot. It’s getting down to time to start putting seed in the ground and I have about a half acre ready to go.(that I can see from where my shooting house will be) Anyone got any tips of what I should put in it? The red mark is where I plan on putting my shooting house.

Confused as to what you’re asking. You’re wanting to put the plot within a good clear shot of the shooting house, correct? Are you asking what side of the shooting house? Front or back? Looks like you got it figured out from the pic.

What kind of food plot mix for a small plot like that? I will eventually do the whole field which is about 2 acres. There’s also 4 apple trees already in the field.

I planted a turnip plot Thursday with bulk seed from southern states. Then I had a second area I had been thinking about so we tilled it up too. I found a bag at tractor supply that I liked, anter king slam dunk blend. I also took some of the extra turnip seeds and broadcasted it with the slam dunk

I'm lazy now and just throw out shelled corn, but in the many years that I did have food plots on my property,it always seemed like the seeds from Whitetail Institute just did better. I mainly used their Imperial Clover back then, but they have multiple blends now also.

I'm not affiliated with them in any way,and their crap is expensive, but it always did well for me. Good luck with your plot!

Thanks for clarifying above. Go ahead and get you a nice little mineral lick site going as well. May bring in and keep a few while you’re waiting for the plot to catch on.

F I L picked up a Container of lucky buck that he found on sale last month and he swears it’s the cats pajamas . I’m such a cheapskate I can’t bring myself to spend $20 even though I know I’m going to

I’m a cheapo too. I buy salt blocks and occasional trace mineral blocks from tractor supply. I’ll throw in some other stuff when I catch it on sale. Cabelas/BPS got the Trophy Rock $3 off right now. So $9 for 12lbs.

Try you some buckwheat and oats. I’ve done a several in the past and they hit it pretty good. Getting ready to do a few soon myself.

I just got 26 bags of bean seed from a farmer. He said it was too late to plant for him,so I got them cheap. It will grow enough for the deer to eat. Gonna put em in the ground Sunday.

You should mix it with something else or store for next year.
