kids today don't know what it feels like to fail. they have been coddled thru high school they get out in the world to figure out it doesn't revolve around them. by then they have no idea how to handle things when life isn't going their way. thus they turn to a chemical high to make them feel good.

Substance abuse treatment has replaced the coal business in Eastern Kentucky.
Fact, politicians pouring more money into it everyday, they get paid so much each day per person, get food stamps off of them, free medical, and some working in the businesses ,the rehab bought up and running. They use to take em to Walmart and drop em off ,when any of that stopped,or they broke over, then the public had to deal with em.It’s a shame this is what the country is going too.Drugs plays a big part why,so many grandparents, are raising children

Overwhelmingly the biggest factor. Most folks have no idea how big of an issue this is.

Sad to see how that next high takes over someone. Saw some coworkers get caught in random drug test. Company would give them a second chance to clean up. None ever gave it up,1 guy after 1st fail said I don't need a second chance I quit cause I'm not giving up my habit. This was over 25 years ago and he was making $80 grand a year. Currently have a family member who you could do a before pic at 30 and after at 50 and looks easily 80 years old. Lost her kids, husband, home and now her kids hate her for abandoning them. Saw my mom chase my oldest brother down that rabbit hole and pull him out time after time and coddle him. I swear it took years off her life, he didn't care. Users just don't realize how their habit effects other people around them.

The fear of death and losing everything should be a far better “vaccine”. Mind numbing to me that people purposefully do these drugs knowing the most likely outcome.
Technical solutions are always better than political or social solutions.

We will never win the war on drugs cause the govt has an endless supply of OUR money to make sure we dont win. Here in Pa. all of the methadone clinics are near schools. I know thats hard to believe but its true. I know 7 coworkers that have lost a loved one, another lost both sons. These are upper middle class sober people, good people. Each death has a ripple effect like a pebble hitting a pond, its devastating. I really wish I could help in some way

we have to start killing those who bring it in , and those who push it then it will slow down
AMEN TO THAT, after all the pain and suffering ive seen from it, i wouldnt even use a gun on em. I would love to use a baseball bat but then they would make me out to be the bad guy.
Search Kensington Pa and you'll see what mean, that would be a good place to start

We live in a none win country! We Americans aren't allowed to win, our goverment does everything they can to keep us from winning and have since the Vietnam War!
The new American dream is to be able to see the good old days when love of country was priority #1!
I'm ashamed of what we have let this country become, it's all our fault no one else's.
The reason it was so great is the people wouldn't allow the crap our goverment pulls no one would of put up with foreigners in our goverment and cross dressing freaks!

It’s a plague and that alone should be enough to close our borders. It’s very telling that certain political figures refuse to address it.

The war on drugs has failed. It will continue to fail. Billions of waisted tax dollars financing the FBI, ATF, DEA and local Police/Sheriff’s Departments. The war on drugs has become big industry for the government and a way for them to become more powerful and strip us of our individual rights and freedoms. An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. Those billions should be spent on education and prevention. Not on law enforcement and prisoners. Take away the customers and the cartels will have no business forcing them to crumble on their own.

How do you propose to "take away the customers?"

I just got through with my six month stint on the grand jury. 60% drug cases (95% of which was meth related stuff) the balance everything else.

I get the war on drugs may certainly be lost, I just don't understand how a civilized society tolerates it. Of those drug cases a good many were drug charges in addition to whatever the initial reason was they had the contact with police. In other words, they were breaking the law and had drugs or paraphernalia. The bulk after that were trafficking charges stemming from controlled buys.

Most of the thefts and what-not also involved drug charges.

Prevention. Growing up I recall the D.A.R.E “this is your brain on drugs” commercials. I always found them laughable. I say hit the younger generation with cold, hard, brutal honesty. Take the money wasted on law enforcement and use it to take them for trips to skid row. Show them real life effects of people that have lost it all. Take them to the morgue. Show them pictures of people brutally murdered by dealers, gangs and cartels. Make an attempt to scare them straight. If they still use drugs after all of that, chalk it up to Darwinism.
