Just curious. I got lucky and killed a nice buck yesterday morning. I killed a spike with 13" spikes on the last day of gun season in 1985 or '86 when a friend invited me to go hunt with him the last day in Christian county. Other than that, I don't recall ever killing a buck on the last weekend of season. For that matter, I don't recall ever killing a decent buck after opening weekend of rifle season. How many on here have scored a buck in the late season?

Does shooting one off my porch count? Lol. Wasn't exactly off the porch but within seeing distance. It stepped out in the last minutes of shooting light the last day. I'd like to have seen him this year as he had good potential as a young 8. Most bucks around here don't live to see their third year so I guess I jumped on the bandwagon that year.

I have always done well on the very last day of archery season. I recall shooting does on several occasions.

I have killed bucks in every stage of deer season, I've never hunted in the last 20 yrs that I haven't seen at least one buck while hunting, usually I see 2-4 a day.

Speaking for my group of hunters, we've killed more on the second weekend and have a few on the wall that were from the week after gun season, one from late muzzle season. The kids have killed a few small ones during the late youth season as well.

I killed a buck Saturday. Next to last day. There’s been several years I didn’t kill a buck. But most years it’s first of rifle season.

Favorite time other than when they are chasing is late season when they get refocused on food.

I saw 2 bucks (spike that almost forked, and 2.5 freak spike) that I could have took around 10-12 that day. If i would have sat the evening their daddy would have rolled in im sure.

  10. I have seen and killed thru whole season

I killed my buck this year at last light on the last day. And I killed one the last evening of season back in 2001. But most usually from my experience it’s opening weekend or nothing

I bagged a Buck some 6 years ago on the last day of Rifle season. I take a majority of my Deer usually 4 days into the rifle season.

I got a big one several years ago in the final minute of shooting light on the last day. It was probably 8 or 9 years ago and brutally cold( like 8 degrees) I had some frozen doe urine in my backpack and scraped some out just before dark and put it on a hand warmer. A big group of deer came out on field about six hundred yards away and this buck stuck his nose in the air and came running he was coming right at me as time ran out and I dropped him as soon as he came in range
