We are planning on renting out our place in Breathitt Co via Airbnb soon for fellow elk and bear hunters. This property is in Unit 4, with fast access to Units 3 & 5. We are still in the process of remodeling, but it will be available before the either sex archery September season opener. Please PM me if you are interested in renting out a place on the Kentucky River right in bustling downtown Jackson KY, before it is posted on Airbnb! I can send pictures upon request. I will hold your spot, on a man's good word until it is live on Airbnb. Thanks!

I've been accepted for the first week of Cow season 2022. I've got area 7 and Regulated area Johnson Tract. What I have found out since being awarded the Regulated area, is the the Coal Company will not allow you to hunt on their property. I'm not sure how many acre's they have. To my understanding, the coal company only allows their employees to hunt that area. They go in a kill the bull's and whatever else they see. The Johnson Tract is a cow only region. So, if all of the coal companies are doing that, you can bet a lot of Elk are being taken and not reported. With that being said, no wonder they isn't as many elk as when the hunting was first started back 20 plus years ago. The Ky. fish and wildlife really need to step up on this type of hunting or it won't be long before the elk are gone again. Anyone know of other good areas in area7 that I could also go to?

So it’s a regulated elk area but no hunting?

They may have a few tags but I assure you that they do not kill whatever they see lol. That’s totally illegal. Even if you apply for the landowner tags I’m almost positive you have to offset it with public access.

Call the local game warden. Tell him your concerns, what you’ve been told, and ask him to meet you at the property. Have him show you or explain the actual boundaries of the property. He may also know some locals with first hand information that could help you. Call KSP post 9 in Pikeville at 606-433-7711 and ask to speak with the game warden. They’ll take your info and have him call you. I contacted the game warden in Pike in 2019 when I had the RH Ford Mountain tract as an RA and the warden was very helpful to me. Good luck. Hope you kill a cow.
