Anyone had any luck planting these? If so what was the success rate? and does anyone have any that produce nuts?

I have a bunch planted that I raised from seed and they are doing good. Have some bigger ones that came from Walmart last year that may have a nut or two on them this year. They are about 8 foot tall right now. A buddy of mine is getting nuts from his trees that he started from nuts several years ago. If the deer like them half as much as I have heard, they will be great to have around.

You have to cage them. The 10 i planted 5 years ago were bit in half by deer the first year. I planted 9 last year and caged them all. So far all have made it. I don’t anticipate having a real mast for 10 years.

I got a couple for the yard last year,......our wal-mart had them. One is 4-5 feet the other in the 6-ish range. They look like they're healthy and going to do well this spring,...we'll see. I've only got the 2 so my success rate isn't going to mean much:rolleyes:.

You're probably as well off if planting quantity to buy them from the state nursery for much less compared to the Dunstan. It's mostly a Chinese Chestnut tree anyhow. That said, if you are just planting a handful, no big deal if you want to throw a few in the ground.
