They very are much so. Why do all the counties have mostly paved roads? The local tax base cannot afford those in most rural areas.
Water treatment both for drinking and breaking down waste.

They are in the fact they take money and use it for something that everyone will use.
here is no similarity i. Millitary, police, fire, roads, and school with ‘give away free programs ‘ for specific people. The others benefit everyone, and are longterm benefits to society as a whole
Social programs benefit those that fail to contribute, some legitimate, most are not.

Agreed. The problem is who makes that decision? We have all seen how that goes, it turns into an income redistributing monstrosity every single time.
I’m not really sure whose decision it is truly. But I mean when it’s privately funded they can give all the money they want. I mean I hate giving my money away as much as the next person. But it does pose an issue because not everyone gets in shitty situations by their own hand.

I’m not arguing private funds, that’s none of my business, I’m talking about forced funding via taxation. I mean, this thread is way off the rails of the original post.

Actually it’s kinda coming back on. The original post if it’s true, the way I read it is that it is more like a private program.

My wife used to work for state food stamp program. Told me stories of grandma, her daughter and granddaughter coming in on the same day with separate appointments. Thats 3 generations. To me that's a learned behavior and playing generosity of taxpayers. Most of social programs are supposed to be a safety net in time of emergency, but many it's a way of life with no end in site.

Cant disagree with that, you are correct. So can those today. So you are argueing against your own points?
No I’m just using your logic. While you’re looking for some badge or pity because you choose to work a low paying job for most of your life is your own choice. But you did receive the equivalent to $1000 a month from your neighbor in free car parts.

So long story short you don’t take your own advice and you’re a hypocrite.

Everyone gets help from someone, everyone needs help at some point. That is just the facts of life.

I worked the low paying job (dairy farming) for about 12 years, then a fair job in a factory for 10, then a pretty good job for utility company the last 20.
‘A thousand a month from my neighbor in free parts ‘ ?????
WTF are you coming from ????
Wore out brake shoes on a truck rear end laying in the bottom of hollow in weeds ???
In 1985 ?
You cant be that stupid and irrational.

No I’m just pointing out everyone gets help if they make it. It could have been $25 back then but when you don’t have the money it might as well be $10,000. You’d understand that if you say you were as poor as you say.

We all get help and it adds up. I don’t have your ego to be as disrespectful and negligent about the people who have helped me.

I’ve had one feller teach me how to REALLY garden for food and I’m still grateful.

No one is the sole source of original thought. You didn’t do it on your own, your wife gave you as much if not more support than you gave her.

But keep fighting for that badge buddy.

Your density, is amazing.
Unlike you, i had no help.
If you call someone giving you garbage, than yeah, i guess i had help.
Back in those days $25 would have probably bought a set of new brake shoes.
Not sure about this badge you keep refferring to.
Maybe its because you grew up getting prizes even when accomplishing nothing, you know, participation trophies.
Im happy for you that you can visualize how things happened before your time.
Must be some kind of psychic or something.
Thats neat.
Yeah, your a really neat person. Be intresting to know what you do, and have done.
Bless your heart.

You are assuming my history. I started with absolutely nothing, and am tottally self made.
My wife , whom i met after many years of struggle, was moral support.
She was on welfare, with 3 kids , all under 4 years old.
So see, we struggled. Within a year of us meeting, she was working in a hell hole factory, then i was.
You dont realize when i started at 18 i took what i could get, a dairy herdsman job. there was no jobs in 1980, very few, and by milking cows by the week, i could work all day for local farmers. Hay, tobacco, grubbing thistles, cleaning fencerows, cleaning calf stalls ( shovelling shit)
So i been there, at the bottom. Never took a dime of government assistance, or private.
Thats no badge, thats pride, that i earned.
If someone doesnt have the gumption to do the same, than its on them.
Its called ‘Responsibility’ , ‘Accountability’ , and ‘reaping what you sow’ .
