Deer season in the life of an old Carp

Mason got a doe monday morning at LBL before he had to go back home. 43 yard shot, 60 yard recovery, 91# field dressed. He got to experience a real public land hunt, dragging her up a steeeeeeep hill, then 3/4 mile ridge drag through tornado damaged woods. We swapped out dragging vs carrying 2 climbing stands, a pack, and 2 bows, i drug her at least half the way, but he did the worst half . On one of our CPR worthy breaks I looked at him and said “Aint like huntin’ at home, is it boy?”
His response ?
“I hate this place”

Set out yesterday with stand on my back looking for buck sign on public land. Wore myself out, feet still hurting this morning, but finally found a few scraps. To late though it was already getting dark. Note to self; find sign first, then go back for stand!

Well fyi, I have hunted there several times this year and that was the first and ONLY deer that I have seen on that property! I had about given up on that location.

I can't find a doe this year. I'm just trying to find a covey of does to shoot at and can't have any luck!

Wednesday Oct 2nd.
Set out again scouting on public land. Walked until lunch, came out and ate, went to another location. Actually checked four different areas today, spent almost the entire day in the woods, and never set up. It’s hard to find sign with all the leaves falling, but fresh scraps will show up, and rub lines. Sure didn’t find as much as I had hoped for the distance I traveled.
But I was out there enjoying time in the woods. Had to stop a lot, my feet are killing me now, but I walked a lot more than I could a few years ago!
