I will post some background and answer some questions. I will mention this, I am not a hothead but I do keep way to much inside until it pops but I never get violent and I do not get physical. Now I will admit to being a smart ass but who of us isn't.

25 years ago I felt my MIL was a strong and successful woman that had bad luck with men. Now that image has changed.

She is only in the house for a short time until she closes on her house and we finish renovation on the house she is going to move into so there is that. But this is the 4th time she has been camped out living on our couch in the last 18 years. The first two times were due to broken bones that required surgery and each of those times cost my wife a college degree in two separate majors and an extra 40G or so a year in potential salary plus the extra tuition to start over twice because the strain of her being in our home led to her getting a friggin C+ in a class each time during Clinical's do to the time commitment and stress it took for her to nurse my MIL back to health.

The TV doesn't matter I will either pay to replace the display or buy a new one and we are putting together a chore lost for both boy’s, each chore will have a $ value and the boys are going to earn the money to fix it or replace it.

What got me was the fact it was broken for at least a day and I had to discover it on my own in front of my MIL and her comments immediately after.

Just reading that makes my blood run cold, I dealt with the same bs and the same snarky comments after the fact. MIL sounds like a bit of a narcissist in the way she does you guys regardless of whether its screwing you or not, as long as she gets hers.

Guess I should have said why was she punished. Lol
What did she do
That particular time I don't remember. She did so many things and I ended up kicking her out. She went to juvie twice for a total of 6 months, kicked out of papaws, had 1 kid in high school and 1 immediately after. Didn't work, lost custody of her kids for a while. Had another kid with different guy. Waaaaaay too much for me to deal with

I remember when I was 5 we got our first color TV, my grandparents had died and left my mom alittle money, she went out and bought a 19" color TV, as we set watching it I kept pointing out the colors with my finger by touching the screen
My dad yelled at me for getting in the way, so he was a mechanic and had this metal stick laying on the table I picked it up and started pointing to the different colors, well it turned out to be a magnet on a stick and it pulled all the color to a spot in the screen.
He had a bad temper and wore my ass out with that magnet, I will never forget it and he will always be hated for it!
Calm down before you have a heart attack or your family hates you!
Children aren't adults and make mistakes, they don't have any idea how much it takes to replace that TV, I did but it was a accident.
Be mad at the adult in the room that turned this into what it became, but do it privately so the kids don't hear, then set down with them and talk it out.

My parents whupped us with whatever was convenient. Belt, tobacco stick, muzzloader cleaning rod, coat hanger, wooden spoon. As long as they stop when blood is drawn. We quit doing what we did to deserve it and had a few days to think about it.

I stabbed my parents water bed with a pencil, yep I had it coming and I still get a shiver when I hear a belt popping through the loops.

They explained to us why we were being punished and then told us they were sorry our actions caused this and they loved us. I’m good with it, was then, am now.

“He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him.

Not against whipping kids need to be scared to get into trouble, but my old man stopped when he got tired no matter how bad you were hurt!
Accident are just that but telling lies shouldn't happen, if they are doing that more beating will lead to better lies.

I’ve been spanked but never beaten. If you beat a child you aren’t doing it for them. You’re doing it because you can’t control your anger. Verbal abuse can leave scars just as deep and long. If anyone is doing either they need help. The problem with people like that is they never see themselves as the problem. They’ll blame those around them for making them do it.

Once agin...I instantly yell what the F%^*!!! ... I snapped and said you know good and damn well... crap.

That is considered emotional abuse. Cease and desist, you very well may lose your children over it to some social welfare program, and even if you do not, they learn to emulate the behavior. Go to Church tomorrow and seek counseling for anger management, not to some quack, instead.

:D In the meantime, sing this song. :D

When I was 7 or 8 next door new people moved in,3 boys about my age, mischievous bunch. Several times I heard there dad whipping them. Sounded like a whip when he swung. I asked them 1 day what he used, he said the end of a fishing rod,he would take the eyelets off.
