I just bought a super clean CVA wolf at a pawn shop yesterday and was wondering for anyone that has one what’s the best setup as far as powder and bullets that won’t break the bank?

Blackhorn 209 and sabots is the only thing I could get any consistency with.

This is what I bought. Never tried any others. It got me to a 2" group at 100 and that was good enough for me.

A number of years ago, I purchased a prototype Wolf (Beartooth Magnum) and set it up to hunt Fort Knox...100 grains Pyrodex RS and a 245 grain Powerbelt Aerotip (I actually started with the 250 grain TC Shockwaves and though super accurate was darned hard to load)...this is a sub-2" load at 100 yards...impressed everyone at the Kleber public range (after the smoke cleared enough to see anything anyway)...
About three years back, I picked up two new Wolf rifles at Walmart (I made the Sporting Goods Manager a stupid offer $50 each that was accepted)...I started setting them up for my wife and son...100 grains of Pyrodex RS and a 245 grain Powerbelt Aerotip could not hit the red side of a red barn at point blank through either rifle...it was terrible...
The load that worked for me ended up being 2 Pyrodex 50 grain pellets under a 250 grain Powerbelt Platinum...seems darned similar to the other load but this one works in those rifles while the other really does not...
Noting a post above...I have not tried the Super Glide sabots from TC...the older Shockwaves were accurate (darned near 1" group accurate)...performance was iffy though...they worked just not as decisively as I like...but the same can be said for the Powerbelts...
Best performing muzzleloader bullet I have ever used was the "old" 350 grain TC MaxiHunter lead conicals...good expansion and big holes (like stick your arm through) with them and good accuracy for a 100 yard slug...not the bullet you want for a longer range shot but under a hundred yards it is devastating...would be my elk, bear, moose bullet from a muzzleloader...I pushed it with 110 grains of Pyrodex RS from my Beartooth and an even older Bobcat sidelock...recoil was also a bit on the brutal side just to warn you...12 gauge slugs had nothing on this load for recoil...

I use 3 50 grain pyrodex pellets, and a 245 grain tc Shockwave. 1 1/2" groups or less at 100 all day

If you go with sabots I’d suggest buying crushed rib sabots and your own bullets. Much cheaper and the crushed rib are easy to load. Hornady XTP’s are a solid starting choice and economical. That combo might not shoot the “best” but it generally shoots good out of about everything

I picked up a pack of 50gr pyrodex pellets today. Just trying to find some primers. Dang near impossible around here

I have a CVA Wolf Magnum I bought about 18 years ago. I use 2 50 gr. Pyrodex pellets and a 245 gr. Powerbelt Aerotip. I can dhoot a cloverleaf at 100 yards. Have a Bushnell 3x9 scope on it. The Magnum is rated for 150 gr. Charge but it shot worse.

yea, my humble advice is dont worry about 3/pellet charges.. The increase in speed is nominal and a bunch of that third pellet goes out the end of the barrel.

I’m just going to go with what I’ve already bought. I can’t afford to experiment too much unless something just flat out won’t work. I’ve got the 295gr powerbelt 50cal bullets and 50gr pyrodex pellets and shoot 100gr

The whole third pellet goes into your shoulder 😅.
I shoot 240gr ball-et over 60gr of FFFG. Full pass throughs on deer out of rifle. Same ball-et with 30gr FFFG out of 10” pistol. Full pass throughs on deer.
Just shoot what is accurate and get on some deer.

I think you will be fine, I got some 295 Powerbelt Aerotips to try but never shot them yet.
