You really have to go into a cruise with the mind set of you are test driving each location to see if you want to go back for a longer period of time. Most stops are for 8 hrs and you won't get to experience much, but you will get a hint of what that place offers.

Been on two. Torture for me. Not into crowds, beaches and shops.
Would be interested in the NW passage. Train inland, etc.
I've been on one myself and I joke with others that I've been on two ........... my first and last !! I didn't enjoy it at all. The wife and I do plan on trying an Alaska cruise in the next couple of years. I'm hoping that is better.

Carnival is the "Wal-mart cruise line. I like it just fine. Went on Royal Carribean on a Big ship but like the smaller ships best. Food better on Royal Carribean but I ain't hard to please. Jamica is a Shithole, Cozmel is OK and safe, Bahamas is safe also but crowded. Keep in mind there will be Other ships and a lot of people. Princess Cay is Great....but if the seas are choppy they won't stop because you have to use a Tender ferry.

Went on a cruise for my honeymoon. I honestly don't remember anything about the cruise ship itself that was great besides the food. We woke up, honeymooned, ate breakast, repeat, nap, gym, repeat...you get the idea. We did have 3 shore excursions as well. We were asleep by 9:00 every night. I really wish we could have sampled the nightlife.

Imagine being stuck in this nightmare or the one during the China flu lockdowns that nobody wanted to let dock. It was like I felt in the navy knowing you’re stuck until they let you off.

@drakeshooter that would just be kinda like Camping. You probably saw worse in your Navy days.
A lady friend of mine is on a Cruise ship Quarantined to her room and Balcony with a case of Chinese Virus. She apparently "Caught" it on the Plane as she took sick after the first 24 hours on the Cruise Ship.
Bummer.

Word of advice if you happen to get seasick like I did, hit the bar as soon as you can muster it. If you and the boat are rocking it cancels out
Sorry for the laughing reaction but a cruise ship is like being on an aircraft carrier. I served onboard USS Forrestal CV-59, the one McCain’s missile mishap caught it afire, called it the Forest Fire after that and it was assuredly “haunted” but that’s for another sea story. Sure you feel the turns but by and large it ain’t any worse that being in your car, hard to imagine getting very sick and I’m the type who got sick on a waterbed once haha. On the other hand my first ship was a tin can, USS Julius A Furer FFG-6 and you felt every single wave and I puked every single time we went to sea for the first 3-4 days. In fact, you felt like you were rocking for a couple days once you got back to port. We skirted Hurricane Gilbert in September 1988 while doing drug interdiction ops in the Caribbean and everybody puked like they were whiskey drunk from the old salts down. The entire ship smelled of vomit and turds were floating in every head. 20+ ft seas in a tin can ain’t fun.

I spent 108 consecutive days at sea in the Indian Ocean onboard the Forrestal during NATO exercises summer of 1988 and it ruined the ocean and even the beach for me for life. When we hit Spain with 3-1/2 months pay in our pockets it was pure debauchery lol but again, another sea story for another day.

Lol. Our first Port after station Gonzo was Diego Garcia. An entire carrier group pulling into a sand bar after 98 days at sea with nothing but a bowling alley for entertainment. You can imagine how that went.... 🤪

https://dot.alaska.gov/amhs/index.shtml Takes some meticulous planning but the best cruise you'll ever take. And very reasonable if you plan ahead. We've had good luck with VRBO properties.

You can fly into Anchorage and cruise south out of Whittier - do not miss the trip from Whittier to Valdez through Prince William sound. On a clear day, the scenery will actually bring tears to your eyes.

Or you can fly into Juneau (awesome) and cruise to Ketchikan (awesome), Sitka (awesome) or Skagway (okay). Not as pretty, but the little villages are cool to explore.

Last year we went from Whittier to Cordova - nothing in Cordova but commercial fishermen and beautiful scenery. Only one gas station in Cordova....Three or four restaurants (but great "local" food).

You will be in the villages before the big cruise ships get there - around 10 - 11 a.m. and after they leave - usually around 4:00 p.m. (Nobody wants to be late for supper.)

I've always wanted to cruise from Homer to Kodiak....maybe in a year or so....

I was talking with one of the employees on a ferry many years ago and I told him that it was so much more real to explore Alaska from a ferry than from a cruise ship. He told me, "It's the difference between being a tourist and being a traveler....." Great quote I'll never forget.

Oh I’m sure it could be worse. I get sick in a car though, sometimes driving 😂 I was better after the first night though. After I ate and took medicine and more medicine
