Crossbow Bolts

So long story short I wound up with a decent crossbow for free. Have a dozen bolts that I think were from Amazon. They shoot, but not something I want to hunt with. Problem is I know next to nothing about xbow arrow setup.

I'm pretty (very) OCD about arrows for my compound and looking for any firsthand knowledge/advice on brand, spine, broadheads, vanes, FOC, etc. Thanks in advance.

What brand of xbow? Newer ones will either shoot 20 or 22 inch. If you are OCD then get the arrows that match the xbow. In other words, Mission sells Mission Arrows, KI arrows are the HyprLites, etc…Your traditional arrow companies like Easton, Carbon Express, Gold Tip, etc…are all into xbow bolts now too. For the money, Cabelas and Guide Gear bolts are pretty good.

I have a centerpoint xbow (370fps) and it shoots carbon express pile driver bolts the best. (20 inch) As far as broadheads, ramcat fixed 100 grain fly the best for me. Hope that helps ya...

Welcome Capt. Mike. To go with what he said, I have a Mission. MXB Charge that shoots 365 I use 22 inch Mission bolts that are 322gr and I did shoot 100 grain Montecs but moved up to 125 to pack a little more punch. From 30 yds only about an inch lower than the 100s. Most of the time they recommend the total weight be in the 450gr -500 gr range for total weight including broadhead , but again a lot depends on the xbow. Most newer will at least require a half moon nock but some people like a capture nock as it hold the arrow on the rail longer (supposedly). Personally, I like 3-4 inch vane but you can go smaller or bigger.

20 inch Barnett Headhunters would work fine and aren’t super expensive. 5 pack around $40 on Amazon. Installed Lumenocks a 3 pack in the $50 range.

Appreciate it. I'm leaning toward the Barnett Headhunters. Might just try out some different 125gr broadheads I have and see what flies well.

My brother and I both shoot Barnett xbows and we shoot the Headhunters with 100gr slick tricks. No problems whatsoever with this setup.

I have a Tenpoint Stealth shooting Easton FMJ with NAP Killzone 2 inch mechanical broadheads. Great setup took a 11 pointer and 3 does last year in my rookie year using it.
