For deer hunting, I toted several different Remington 700's in 270 for many years, then about 10 years ago I switched to a Winchester model 70 in 30-06. I absolutely love the 30-06 caliber and for an "all around" big game rifle... it about as versatile as you can get from bullets weighing 90 grains up to 220 grains. Which I will always hold a fondness for a 270 but the 30-06 just gives you more options.
As far as the 6.5 Creedmoor...... I just bought one about a month ago and honestly I like it. Which as another poster stated...... you can take a $500 rifle & mid-series scope and shoot a 1000yds..... the 6.5 Creedmoor is just accurate .....and I like the light recoil. I would not hesitate starting a youngster with one as I would have a 243 years ago.
Now the debate question..... is it any better or worse than any other caliber.... not really but I dont see it going away. Which the 6.5 is .264 bullet diameter .... been around a very very long time in many forms on paper better than the 6.5 Creedmoor. In turn ..... 6.5 Creedmoor in factory ammo is offered from 95grains to 147grains in hunting loads..... at least what I've seen so far. Its not super fast in comparison to many calibers but being slow & allowing for a heavier & higher bullet BC is what makes it super accurate. It's also similar to the 308 to the point you can shorten the barrel length and your not loosing many FPS in the process... which gives it a lot of qualities to be chambered in AR platforms.
I killed a decent buck last Friday using the 6.5 Creedmoor and Hornady Precision Hunter in 143 grain ELD-X bullets. The deer was just as dead as if I'd shot it with my 30-06, 270, 30-30, 243 or other rifles I own capable of killing deer.
At the end of the day.... we all got opinions on good or bad calibers but most come down to what we own & shoot. I'm not going to bash the 6.5 Creedmoor but I'm not going to tell you its the best thing since sliced bread either. Its a good round for a variety of reasons but theres many others that get the job done just as efficiently or better. Heck I got a friend who likes the 6.5 PRC and no doubt its got advantages over the 6.5 Creedmoor. But when it comes down to the nut-cuttin theres always a caliber or soon to be wildcat cartridge thats the next best thing.

I’m just glad we can all agree the caliber hype sucks but the new stuff is still just fine, same as the old.At least the first time you're willing to admit it.

I have shot the 6.5 Man Bun at 1000 yards out at my friend's ranch in Oklahoma. It is a fine cartridge, but it's 90% in the gun barrel...good ones and bad ones in factory rifles.
Ones I shot were custom rifles and barrels with NF scopes on top. Anybody could Hit with That.
I actually preferred the 6 Creedmoor over the 6.5.
I used to have a .264 Winmag and it was badass cartridge. Sold it long ago.
My son is thinking seriously about a 6.5 PRC when he gets back from Romania.

Not quite sure why there’s so much hate for the 6.5 CM. I’ve got one in cheap Savage Axis. It shoots great, very mild recoil, and there’s usually not much trouble finding ammo. I’ve killed one deer with it and a friend’s son borrowed the rifle and killed his first buck with it. I think it’s an excellent deer caliber and although not legal for Kentucky Elk, lots of folks do use them for Elk in western states. Wouldn’t be my choice but others have success with it. Shoot what you like and have fun.

You make me want a 6.5 CM 🤔. I have to go against the grain. Now that they aren’t cool anymore, I see one in my future.

I got a good deal on the same gun a few years ago and have never even shot it. My brother who has owned about everything, and knows more about handguns and firearms than about anyone I know personally, bought a 6.5 Howa and put a Nikon BDC on it about 3 years ago, and as cheap as the set up is, and with all the weapons he owns, it’s about all he gun hunts with now. Also, I saw someone with my own eyes take that 6.5 CM Axis Package with Weaver scope, same cheap package that I have, and drop dimes at over 400yds with very little practice. A few clicks of the scope. I’m not that good but I guess the right shooter… I’m not promoting as I have never shot mine but everyone who buys a CM seems to be very happy with it.

I got 2 boxs of ammo for one, midway usa sent me 2 boxs that I didn't order I contacted them and they told me to keep them it was illegal for me to mail them back.
Might have to get me one someday I'm sure they will be super cheap used in the near future.

6.5 PRC is a totally different animal. No personal experience but hear it’s pretty bad ass. When I was considering a caliber for my next long range gun it was in the high rankings but I figured ammo would be a bitc to get So I think I’ve narrowed down to 300 wsm or 7m mag

What makes it better than the 26 nosler. I want that savage ultralight in 28 nosler. I think that would be a shooter.

7mm bullets are great for long range in my opinion the 30 caliber has its place but the 150 gr bullets are to short and fat for my liking the nosler should really be spectacular.

It does. The .270 is a long action though that could be considered a negative.
