I don't like change much, Especially fads.

I know the creedmore is a high performing round and very popular. But i loath even hearing it. Maybe its because calibers should be numbers not names .223 .270 .308 7mm, maybe because they had half the shelf full of it when i needed 30-06, or because i hear younger hunters act like other calibers cant even kill a deer. I dunno. Get off my lawn!

They come up with new calibers to sell more guns...PERIOD.
I always look for a .308. No need for anything other than a 308, 270, 3006, 30-30. Everything else is somewhat of a novelty really. It's just easier to find 308 stuff and not pay through the nose. I've carried the same 270 since I was 16, other than my 308 pistol on occasion.
Right now they are pimping the 300 legend. Why? Because they want to sell new guns.

And I'm pretty sure all of the old calibers will do the job.

And yes, get the hell off my lawn!!!!

Can anyone riddle me why .308 ammo is readily available and 30.06 is extinct?!? “Supply and demand” is not adding up.


Just to tie this in with the thread….you can buy 6.5 Creedmore by the tractor trailer load.

It's just not a popular I guess. 308 is much more versatile. You can do light yote loads to elk.

Seriously. Dad used to carry a Remington semi auto 30 06. I haven't been around anyone carry one since. It's always 7mm, 25 06, 308, or 280.
I started my son on a 243 and he went to a 308. I haven't seen a 30 06 at camp in 20 years.

30.06 and .308 are the default deer rifle. Occasionally an old timer carries a .270. Other than that guys go big caliber. 7mm and .300+. 30.06 is plenty popular and there is a significant demand that is not being met. That’s alarming. Hell you can’t buy shotgun shells. You can’t buy .243. You can’t buy anything other than 9mm and .223 and .308. Why?

I don’t buy that. There is little to no benefit to a .308 and there are a stupid number of 30.06 in circulation. There is no reason for .308 ammo to be readily available and 30.06 ammo to be like finding a needle in a bay stack

6.5 CM is old news. That’s why I didn’t buy one, they were outdated before we even heard the name. Where you been?

6.5 PRC 300 PRC 6.8 Western and about a billion other new calibers. The .224 Valkyrie already came and went in the same time period. (Hated to see it go) Grendel is dying too. .204 has sadly passed the ammo shelves also.

I still love old school calibers. I think 16ga, 357 mag, 30-30, 9mm, .223, 25-06 and .270 Win are all you could ever need.

I love ballistics, I study them relentlessly, study velocities/BC’s, barrel twist. If something has ammo available/reasonable and as cheap as guns are these days… I’m going to try what I want. Necessity be darned. Old codgers scared of ammo availability and hipsters scared of not being cutting edge be darned too.

I found 30-06 at spyder arms in Alexandria. None of the other stores had it. Never even heard of the mfg. it grouped well, it will kill, just shocked at the lack of availability and price.
