Ohh man, im telling you the first time i had german beer it was like 'wtf...'
I get what they say about american now. It all made sense.
That stuff is balanced and smooth and finishes clean. They take their brewing to another level its like LAW over there.

Hefeweizen beer is about the only kind I don't like. It has a pungent smell and bad aftertaste to me.

It is LAW on Germany. Called German Purity Law and they enforce it strictly.

I like most German beers but no Hefes. Warsteiner, St. Paulie Girl.

They haven't evolved yet. Eventually they will go to IPAs. :D

Actually, they and the Belgians do brew fruit beers.. And for the record, German White wines are damn good too!

Obviously there are exceptions to the rule....I’m just saying the Cincinnati (extremely German city) Shuetzenfest put on by the Germanian society would never ever have a fruit beer listed on their menu. Hell I know of guys that make scotch here in Kentucky but that’s an anomaly

exit to add: apparently they do cater to hipsters. They serve blue moon and 50 west Coast 2 ipas o_O None of the authentic German breweries stoop that low though.

    Lightweights on here, I tellya....

I prefer Imperial Russian Stouts. Since I can't afford them for a daily, my go-to is generally Boston Lager from Sam Adams. That being said, Old Rasputin is a fairly cheap ( ~ $10/4 pk) Imperial Stout and is really good. Victory Storm King is decent for the price, as well.

Oskar Blues makes a helluva good ine, called Ten Fidy. It's around $17/4 pk. West 6th does an almost-clone of that one, called Snake Eyes. Avery had the Dictator series, but discontinued it, damn them.

Bourbon Barrel Stouts also kick ass. Dragon's Milk is great and readily available. Goose Island does their Bourbon County series annually, and we got this year's offering, along with two variants @ $28 per bottle. Their stuff is great, but the best BBS I've ever had is the elusive Bo and Luke from Against The Grain brewery out of Louisville. Managed to find two of them. One is gone, the other awaits my impending retirement in two weeks.

If it ain't at least 10% ABV, it ain't beer. Oh, and it's gotta pour like motor oil. IPA's are OK (Goose Island's Grumpy is pretty good), but for pure flavor, ya can't beat an good RIS or BBS.

My gateway beer was an imperial stout. I wish i could remember the name of it i thought it had something to do with wolves.. but i dont see it on prelim google searches.
But this was 10 years ago and may have been discontinued. The motor oil stuff is good.

Also, mentioned this in another post but if anyone likes Russian Imperial Stouts I'd highly recommend this one. I haven't tried a bunch, but this is the best I've had.
