Gathered up to mate. I’ve seen nests with six grown snakes and 30+ young snakes before

I grew up and lived most all my life up that way, we seen and killed many copperheads every summer. We always had feist dogs ,that would bay the snakes ,we’d take a hoe usually and go to em ,and kill the snake.

Okay y'all.... General water snake or copperhead? Was at the boat dock area at Guist Creek Lake a couple of weekends ago. I was too busy running away while my son took the pic...

Water snake. KDFWR Herpetologist was on KY Afield recently. He said an easy way to tell the difference is that the bands on copperheads get wider on the snakes sides. Water snakes get narrower. I killed a bunch of those as a kid. Thought I was killing copperheads. I feel bad about that now. Also non venomous water snakes swim with their body submerged. Venomous swim on top.

  9. I nearly got in a fist fight with my fishing partner who wanted to pull his sidearm out and blast a “copperhead” right by the docks at Kenkake. Idiot called me retarded if I didn’t think that was for sure a copperhead. This guy is one of the most outdoors fellas you will ever meet but snakes sure wasn’t his strong suit. I convinced him to put up his piece and let the banded water snake go but he still left sure I was the moron lol.

As an adult, I usually let non venomous snake go their own way but I have NEVER felt bad about killing a snake.
