I almost stepped on a 5' timber rattler in Bernheim Forrest near Louisville a few years ago. Their camouflage really works! I have a picture of him on a wall in my office at work.

I was in the deer stand once and had one jump on my leg. He then jumped on my bow string and sat there for about 5 seconds and then flew out of the tree.

I worked in a tobacco barn that had a pile of old blankets in the rafters and it had a tunnel and it was full of flying squirrels. Once we climbed up around them they would be going all over the place.

You can usually hear them at night if you know what they sound like but don't see them very often.

I saw a lot of Rattlers at North Louisiana before. The camouflage is really perfect that you will not notice them.

I have scads of them. Every night they fly down to the big oak tree in my front yard. I put out a tray with some sunflower seeds on it, and they love it. Most nights there will be 6-8 of them out there, beginning right at dusk. If you take it slow and easy, you can get within arm's length. I've had them eat from my hand on a few occasions.

I went out to take a pic and there are about 4-5 out there right now. They were a little skittish of the light and only one would come down to the tray at a time.
