We sat this morning in a buddy stand and Connor stayed right with me and never said anything or wanted to go and only ended up seeing a few squirrels. Well about 10 we climbed down and we easied over to check the camera. I pulled the card and just had turned it back on when I looked over my shoulder and there was a deer about 100 yards away coming into the field. I told Connor there's a deer, it's a buck but I don't know how big. He looked through the scope and said I'm gonna shoot it. He pulled up and click, I don't know what happened there wasn't any primer punch but he was able to get another shell loaded and he shot and missed but the deer just stood there. He reloaded and shot again, he jumped and turned running back into the field, he stopped and he hit him again. He only ran about 30 yards after the first hit. This is not his biggest deer but he was just as excited as if it had been his biggest and I told him that's what it's all about its not just the rack size but more the hunt and as long as he is happy I'm happy. I ended up having trail cam pics of us as he was trying to shoot and after he had shot.It was a great hunt and I am really proud of the hunter he has become. Good luck to all the other youths out this weekend and congratulations to the ones who harvested.
