Pellet gun and Bunny Bread.
That’s how you kill doves right now and don’t get shot in the meat. Just use corn instead.
Leave the geese alone on ponds you hunt in regular season. I learned the hard way. Otherwise you'll push them off and they won't bring the migrators back in bigger numbers. Silage is the best but pastures can produce too. If you see woodys on a certain pond or area of a river now, they'll be there everyday even the day after you shoot it. Small area just hide and wait. Big water hole just throw out 2 hens on a jerk string. Don't use full color drakes. Unfortunately my wife planned pur vacation during woody season and I didn't realize it until it was too late. 5 good days of hunting for us ill miss. Shoot one for me.
Come to my house at about dawn, come inside and have a cup of coffee, open a couple of windows and wait till you hear honking. Then run outside grab your shot gun and wait for them to fly over the house. Send the dog out to retrieve then have another cup of coffee.
What’s your all’s teal report? Seeing any? We went scouting this morning. Seen a few. Nothing to freak out about yet. Scouting again Thursday and Friday.
had over 100 blue wings with a few green wings hang out for several days then bug out on Thursday. Havent seen any since hoping the cooler weather will push more through
I used to love early goose but with it pushed back its tough not a ton of corn cut and most the silage fields are fed out around here or have been bombarded by dove hunters and ran the geese off. cattle ponds can be good if they arent roosting there and staying all day. Just stay away from the roosts. You can goose hunt on a budget look into silhouettes still not cheap but can be done. last but not least stay away from the roosts.
We checked some spots yesterday on the farm we hunt mostly woody's seen one group of prob 15 teal flying. Then when we were hanging out at the shop 2 bluewings came in and hit the pond at the shop.
Looked at several places last night. Hardly anything...
Most dairy farms here have converted to beef cattle. No more silage cut. Just now getting into corn harvest in western end of county.
I have a question about a wma rule. “no more than 4 persons shall occupy a single hunt site at any one time”. Our group usually hunts with 4 people. A guy wants to bring a Girlfriend Who doesn’t hunt. (That’s an issue for another discussion). I’m completely against it sense the rule says 4 persons. Splitting up into 3 and 2 will make the trip no fun at all so what’s the best option.
Just say all your forum friends said it’s completely illegal and that both the GF and the friend need to start seeing other men.
Just heard geese, westbound.
Snagged a 6 pack of big foot goose floaters for 150 this morning at Cabelas. So between that and the call and some shells I’m at about 200 in on geese. Might go try a farm pond I’ve seen them flying over in the afternoon.
The website shows them on sale for 129
