Went and seen her today. She be two weeks in Wednesday and her and her 2 siblings are growing well. Buddy been handling them daily and I picked her up and petted her a little this evening. Can't wait to get her home and start trying to work with her. A pup bred a lot like her is what I was working toward when I had cracker and my health made a turn for the worse

These little dogs are simply amazing to watch! I have one of Barney’s daughters running loose here. She's treed most every morning and evening, sometimes midday as well.

Early this morning she buzzed by me like a bullet just as I opened the door, zigzagging, winding and checking around the yard. I watched as she got squirrly under a black gum for about 30 seconds. She walked all around the tree listening, looking and smelling with her head straight up, then she lit it up! I looked the tree over from where I was standing but I didn't see the squirrel. About the time I started to the tree for a closer look the squirrel started timbering out down the tree line. What a blast that was watching her twist, dance and sing under that squirrel for a hundred yards until it got back to the den tree!

This evening about sunset she was treeing her little heart out over in the woods again so I went to her. When I was within 50 or 60 yards to the tree I saw the squirrel bailing out, and she was right under it all the way. We had a blast with that squirrel! I had it's path to the den tree blocked, and it was having to make a circle around me in the tree tops to get there. Lordy, what priceless fun for 20 minutes!!

You can't get there from here.
Well I'm gonna give it another shot in raising and training a mountain Feist into a squirrel dog. This little pup was born a week ago and is out of my old cracker dog and a double granddaughter to him. She sure has the bloodline with plenty of good squirrel dogs in her background to make a dandy. If I can stay healthy enough to get her in the woods to get her going. If she doesn't make a squirrel dog it will most likely be my fault. Either way she gonna stay in the house and be a family pet. Looking forward to getting her and giving it another try. By looking at the markings near her butt you can see where the name clover is coming from.

I love to watch them. The little house dog Feist we have already will tree and timber here in the yard but if ya take her to the woods she will not hunt. She still has a home for life as everybody loves her

Well know I just don't know if I'm gonna be getting clover grace or not. Gary my buddy called yesterday morning and said the male and other female died. Don't know what happened. Just had turned 4 weeks old and we're fine the evening before. One dead dead the next morning and the other that afternoon. Guy who owns cracker said not worry about him and he wouldn't charge a stud fee. Gary really wanted the male but this is his first litter and I told him if she lived and he wanted to keep her I would fully understand and I could find another pup sometime or another. Still a few weeks for him to decide and if he keeps her I'm fine with that. I have a granddaughter to cracker that will be bred to him soon as she comes in. I can keep a female from them if he keeps this one but either way if she has a male I'm gonna make sure he gets one.

I'm sure you know what I'm saying is true. If you have another older squirrel dog or dog's to take along with the pup when it gets old enough, will teach the pup alot about squirrels. Once the pup see what the other dogs are doing, it will fall right in line within a couple of months.

That is correct they will learn a lot by going with another dog. There can be a couple down sides to doing that as well if it is done to much. The first being you can make a me to dog, where the young pup will not hunt for it's own squirrel but will tree with the older dog. The second being if the older dog has bad habits the younger one can pick those up as well

Well the pups name will now be Gracie. Her two liter mates didn't make it and my buddy is going to keep her. He owes me a pup but I told him I didn't expect him to give me the only pup that lived out of the liter. Guy who now owns cracker was also in line for a female but he told Gary same I did to keep her for himself he didn't expect him to give up the only one that lived. I figure I will get one eventually or possibly the next time he breeds one or heck I may breed mine when she comes in heat again if she ever does. She's going on 2 in may and has only been in one time that I know of. She could have come in twice but the first time would have been before I got her. I got her at 9 months so don't really know
