Damn near hit a eagle on way home this afternoon. I was on the parkway. It was swooping in trying to pick up something that got hit last night. I watched it in rear view mirror make a couple more attempts. Both times coming close to a car. What would the odds be of that?

If your vehicle ever makes contact keep it to yourself. Couple years back one of the crop dusters where we hunt in AR hit one with his plane. He reported it and had to stay on site with the search crew until it was located and secured.

Would have busted a head light or worse. No thanks. I wouldn’t be too concerned about the bird.

I saw one fly by my house last Tuesday. He was sailing towards the lake.

These things are thick nowdays. I see one or a pair about once a week. I never saw one here till about 20 years ago.
I have Never saw one catch a fish; eating on roadkill or a dead cow all I ever saw. Buzzard with white head.
I have seen them fishing up North.

I've seen them dive for fish left and right up here.

As for lowly scavengers, I was rather surprised to notice the Starlings aggressively going after roadkill during the snowstorm. They were barely getting out of my way, whenever I drove past any which was frequent.

Had one in front yard (immature) bout a week or so before the ice storm. I see em fairly often here since we are close to the lake.

While I do enjoy watching them and I do believe they are magnificent, the reality is Bald Eagles are little more than vultures with good public relations rep. ;)

I respectfully disagree. The magnificent Bald Eagles are apex predators of the sky and can even swim; truly something else when compared to all other foul, while also our official national bird since the late 1700s. They will kill other large birds and steal their food, too. I have yet to see any other birds try to fight one of them, but I am aware that it occurs and would absolutely love to manage those photographs, myself, after having shot them nonstop for 30 days tending to their babies. They are great parents.
