Close call

Had a scare last night. Lightning hit our house. Struck a water heater vent. Fried a fridge, all cable equipment and router. Fried outside GFI and security system. Fried garage door opener. Didn’t realize until this morning it burst our water line. Water sprayed all night under the house. 200 sq ft or so of drenched insulation. Big mess. Didn’t realize until plumber came how close we were to disaster. Gas line crosses water line under house. The lightning arced from copper to steel and that’s what burst the water line. Welded them together. Could have exploded. Very fortunate.

That's really scary, Glad you all OK! A few years back a friend of mine lost everything after his house was hit by lightning.

Wow! I've lost 2 TVs to lightening over the years, but we barely knew it hit. This is an amazing amount of damage to happen and nobody got hurt. You all had a guardian angel.

Wow that is unbelievable! Glad it wasn’t worse than it was though.

I've lost three TV sets, two routers, two landline phones, a DVD player, since living here in Kentucky. Just replaced another router the other day!! I now unplug the phone line to the router plus phones, and disconnect Direct TV "Genie lite" receiver box, when storms are predicted or in progress.

Two lightning rods on our old farmhouse. Heavy braided cable to rod in ground. Seen the ground smoking a couple times over the years. Our plumber had a house that had water in the gas lines due to same issue you had. Stove burner would spew water when turned on. Scary stuff!
