Another way of looking at the retreat from Afghanistan:
All that hardware left behind can create a major destabilizing factor for the region. A lot of enemies of the Taliban might think twice about action in country. We already know they're training pilots and crews on flying and mechanics for our leftover copters. Hell, they may even make interdictions into China on behalf of enslaved Uiger Muslims. Not advocating here, just postulating. Even if we go back there one day (hope not), our military tech will far outpace what we left behind , because all of our treasure spent on Ukraine results in more baseline spending on new gear for the coming years. Raytheon, Lockheed, Grumman, etc. get rich. The gannies get more accustomed to western military power with their new gear, resulting in some measure of decadence.
