Picked 1 1/2 lbs of very fresh chicken of the woods today off a log in front of my house that also produced last year. I usually don’t find these this time of year.

I’ve been fortunate to find morels, oysters and chickens in the past month. I don’t think that has ever happened for me.

Nice find but IMO way way early, as they are normally August types. I expect the heavy rains and more rain and late cold snaps will cause fungi in the wild to do some weird things this year.

You’re right. This same log produced the last 2 years in August.

Picked some "late spring chickens" myself last night in Valley area. These normally emerge from the ground, close to the oak tree.Have found on same oaks, for several years.
These don't re-emerge in the fall.

Had them things all over my woods last summer and had no idea what they were. Could’ve filled a truck bed with them. I’ll be looking this year.

I had chicken of the woods in truck load in august last year...not hens.

I just a minute ago saw and picked a nice fresh plastic grocery sack load of oysters . Also Ive seen several bunches somewhat fresh but too old to eat along streams fishing in last week. Do not recall seeing them here in this late in May before. Weird stuff . Also noted these oysters seemed fresh as possible but I've just got them inside and killed 25 beetles from them .. meat not damaged but covered in beetles.

Are yall out on boats or wearing waders looking for shrooms?!? Lol 5 inches of rain here since yesterday eve. Shew it's going to be rough on the Turkey hatch if those tales of "drowning themselves" are true.

    Nice find BTW
