I would suggest planting 3-5. If you get 2-3 of the same sex you will not get fruit.

Good info,..may add more next year. These are just going in my yard. I'm a tree fan anyway and have just been planting different things for fun the last 8 or 10 years. I've only got an acre yard,...we'll see how these do. I've got about 50 or so trees so it's slowing down on available space a bit. My Elliot pecan had blooms this year,...but my cape fear that I planted with it originally died within a year. I will be trying another one of those this fall if possible,...I actually prefer fall plantings if I can find what I'm after.

I think it's just business,....folks in the burbs like to hit yard work hard in the spring. Therefore that's when the nursery's and dealers load up and get ready,....I had good luck ordering bare root online for some things. Quite a bit becomes available online toward the end of the year.

Just FYI for people in NKY. My buddy was just at the Florence Walmart on Houston road and said they had 20-25 Dunstan Chestnut trees. 4-5 8 foot for $50 and the rest were 4 foot

I planted 50 chestnuts, 100 persimmons, and 6 pears last year. I planted 16 pears this year. Be sure to protect your trees if you plant them! I haven't had any chestnuts nipped out of the tube. I have had a few persimmon, but they'll recover.

I stopped by the Florence Walmart a couple times this week. They have about 4 or 5 of the tall Dunstan chestnuts and 10 or 12 of the smaller ones. I was debating picking up a persimmon but the Deer Magnet persimmon was gone. They did have a Deer Candy one there still though as of yesterday.

Did you get your pear and persimmon and Dunstan too?? I know they sell a variety of persimmon trees. If not what type were they?

Checked out the Walmart near me...Zero Dunstans. Maybe I should check out Shelbyville or Mt. Washington? But it starting to seem a little late to plant trees or is the window still open?

Unless you can water easily... your window is closing, your survival % decreases the later you plant.

Thanks. Isn't Fall a better time to do this anyway?
