BM, I grew some in my pond about five years ago. It came in the old biologic stuff. Didn't do that well for me but I did get a few kernels out of it.

We grew some several years ago but without harvest manipulation, the ducks never touched it.

I hope you have better luck than we did.

Good luck with it. I've seen 80 acres rice fields in MO completely black with blackbirds right before the rice was ready to combine. Whole lot of investment in time and $$ to let a bunch of trash shorebirds eat it all.

I love it, just proof of what I was saying in another post, anything that grows in MOMO can be grown here just as well. The difference is that MOMO is under the interstate of traffic. But something tells me that if we have a winter like last year, someones (^) gonna have some feathers in that rice.

rekon if I get me a couple fellas with them funny hats and one of them weird cows I can get it manipulated where the blackbirds won't flogg it and the ducks will?

I've tried rice several times and been thwarted by grasshoppers ,weeds, and blackbirds before. This is a small one acre plot and a hybrid seed supposedly matched to our lattitude and temperate zone. It is hardy and just started making a head last week. Loads and loads of seed clusters. I started the re-flooding on tuesday with hopes of the seeds falling into the water (out of the blackbird zone and in the duck zone) as I attempt to harvest some for next years plots. I feel like this is a very good hybrid and next year I will blend it with my Jap on the larger plots. This plot is a rest area and we will not hunt it so I'm not worried too much if the blackbirds get their share.

Hey you may get lucky enough that the blackbirds will do their share of the reseeding. A hybrid rice in jap millet would be a hard combo to top. Its pretty wild how rice works.

Till with pto tiller. Broadcast and and cultipack then flood right after . Drain off and flood again when about a foot tall. Two bags of triple ten per acre. Did not see a seed head at all until the first cool night then lots.
