Mom once helped two adults start campfire. They had been holding matches to the ends of full sized logs in their attempt! I determined to give my kids a better start. What do y'all teach your kids in the woods?

I love Cedar trees! The dead ones stand for years, providing air-dried wood in abundance. Often they still have many tiny twigs left that are ideal for fire starting, as well as the seemingly taylor-made bark from more recent specimens.

I remember dad teaching me about neetle weeds,he had a bean and corn patch ,at what he called the new ground. It was up on the hill, and the path up the hollow to get to it,had a bunch of stinging neetle weeds on it,well me being the little dumb a-s I was ,I wore a pair of short pants ,when I went with him.It didn’t take long to figure out ,them things ain’t nothing to fool around with.

once i found out that cheetoes puffs, will start a fire, i quit eating them. they burn like charcoal fire starter.
still might work for fish bait, though i like the regular one's for that.

dont cost much for a small bag of cheeto's. only need a few to test, then eat the rest. or go fishing, an use a small piece on the hook. they need to be out in the air for a bit, so as, they are not so crispy, an stay on the hook better. [Hot'nSpicy fried pork skins] only need a small part for bait.. dime size.. same with good shrimp, some for bait, then if ya get hungry, just put a piece or few, on the coleman lantern lid to cook. welcome to the barbee, though i think of it as a mini grill.
i cooked a crawdad tail, from the creek once on the mini. it was good..
