Ok so just got word me and my dad might be able to do some coyote hunting here soon. I wanted to take the trusty AR out.. now will the regular USMC or WOLF ammo work or what do I need to use? I have never been coyote hunting and was wondering what is effective to down one with. Also If I only have a 30 round mag will I need to get a 10 rounder, or is there no limitation for yote??

Definitely cannot use full metal jacket ammo. Has to be soft or hollow point.

I also haven't seen any exception to the 10+1 magazine limit in any of the annual F&W hunting guides. Before assuming it's okay for hi-cap mags, I might ask a local CO.

I used the white box 45 gr HP in mine when I had it. They worked good.
There is no mag restriction for coyote hunting. The 10+1 is only for deer hunting. Your Ky Hunting Guide list any restrictions for any type of game.

I would go with the V-MAX bullets in whatever weight your AR shoots best. If you want to save the hide then use a softpoint with controlled expansion. The V-Max bullets has a tendency of leaving massive holes in things!

Full Metal jacket ammo is legal for furbearers and coyotes but illegal for deer. Unless changes have been made but I would check and make sure. Nothing I can find in the latest guide. Anyone else know for sure.? This only makes sense for minimal pelt damage!

As for what is effective to down one with, I'd answer a well-placed shot. You don't need to hit them with a cannon ball as long as you hit them well in a vital spot.

True very true, but I still like to walk a big hole in em! I like the 50 gr. V-MAX out of my 22-250, it can mess em up if you hit em right!

I'm guilty of putting big holes in 'em too. I shoot 55 grain ballistic silvertips in my .22-250.
