Only 9 weeks (63 days) until Bow Season Opens, from this coming Saturday July 2. My question, How many of you hunters have crossed off your bucket list...arrowing a velvet bruiser?
Not me and to be honest I am one of those rare guys who isn't interested in getting one. Even if I kill an early September buck I hope he isn't still in velvet. Now I won't pass a shooter because he is in velvet but the velvet just holds no appeal for me. That said I hope you get one if it is still on your bucket list.
I'm not saying I'd pass on a nice velvet if it came by but I'm with you EarlyBird, I have no interest. I rarely see a buck where I hunt before October anyway. Guess if I hunted big open fields and watched some big velvets feed late evenings I'd feel differently? Best of luck to ya though!
Not a bruiser but good enough for me. I don't really want another one but Semptember is my best chance at a good deer on my place so it is what it is
Like the others I wouldn't pass a nice big shooter velvet buck but I don't like them and don't aspire to have one on the wall.
I'm not a velvet guys either, but Wademup's deer walked in front of me you can bet i'd sling an arrow. I just don't have that on the bucket list.
I have 2 velvet bucks and don't care if I ever shoot another one. With that being said I wouldn't pass on a good one in velvet.
Not on my bucket list at all. I just really don't care for a velvet buck mount. Glad you guys like them, just not my thing. I do have an elk that still had shards of velvet on him and left it on, but thats the only one. A caribou or bear is on my list, but not the most pressing thing right now.
Sure made a short season though , killed him opening day of 2014. Hunted about an hour and 20 minutes. The place I hunt is really good very early and very late in season and nothing in between. With season opening very early this year I will have velvet bucks , there is the option to strip the velvet I guess
Haha! yep my KY 2014 buck season was cut short due to a target buck walking out 20 minutes after I got set my first morning in the stand, but that was nov gun season and to be expected from time to time during the rut. spent the next 7 days seeing all kinds of bucks while hunting does. Saw more shooter bucks that year then I ever have in KY.
