Finally laid into a 3lb, 19inch one this morning. Heck of a fighting fish, and gorgeous. Hammered the crankbait like a freight train. Also saw several jumping 3 feet out of the water, though I couldn’t get them to hit my top water.

Also at first light, got a 7.4lb, 30 inch Snook. I had no idea what it was when I set the hook, but it started stripping line like a torpedo. Let him run for a good 5 minutes before bank flipping him. Cool experience. For reference I’m wearing size 14 shoes.

Not bad for a quick mornings trip.

Nice peacock! I caught a ton of them in the Miami ditches and drains but none close to that

I’ve never fished in the city. Always gone out across the turnpike on the edge of the glades.

I caught two peacocks right on the approach to Miami Airport(lake/canals). Both mine were on shiners as the previous trip I threw everything in the box at em without a bite.

Also caught a snook on live bait in the intercoastal around Hillsborough inlet when my boat was stuck on a sandbar due to a big tide. I didn't have a snook tag so I tossed him back. Not sure if he was in the right slot size or not.

Did You catch it on one of the road side ditch ponds?

I'm chasing after one that will bust 8# for right now . In 2017 I caught one that was 2/10 under 7# and another that was 3/10 over 7# . They were caught within half hour of each other on the same point along with multiple others in the 5# range . I have noticed over the years that truly big smallies seem to run together.

Not at all , it was at Dale . Ive listened to alot of people talking about the big smallies being gone . I can tell you they are alive and well. I have never hooked one that I believed was bigger . One of my good friends had one to the top about 9 years ago that he believed was an 8-9# fish . I was fishing within 50 yards of him when he hooked it . It came unbuttoned beside the boat and he was devastated.

  12. I too believe the big smallies school up together to feed especially early and late in the day. At night they seem a little more spread out up on shallow flats but again the big ones come off the same spots year in and year out. I have a few 5-10s to 5-15s under my belt, no 6 or betters BUT at night I’ve had my rod nearly pulled out of my arms, hear the drag giving a quick roar and the newly tied 20 pound fluorescent Stren pop like a banjo string. Maybe a 50+ pound drum or flathead but probably a huge smallmouth. Twelve or more years ago they disallowed the Dale Hollow world and the Kentucky State smallmouth record for a short time before reinstating it. Maybe y’all remember that? Anyway that took the state record way on back and that’s when me and a buddy fished 150 nights a year there for awhile and 50+ for a decade.

It used to be at Horse Creek I'm not sure if it still is . It looks like a baby bull hanging on the wall.
